This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GdW.2ACIB/245 Message Board Post: I have been checking in to this site from time to time in an effort to help my father gain information on his family. My e-mail address has changed several times and am reaching out to anyone with information. At this point I am pleading. Here is what I have and need help. My father was born William Fitzwater on April 18, 1932. He was adopted, not at birth but when he was about a year old. The original birth certificate states that his mother was born in 1913 (approx) and his father was born in 1911 (approx). One of his parents was a Fitzwater. My father was adopted out of Catholic Social Services in St. Louis Missouri and could have been born anywhere, not necessarily Misssouri. He grew up in Farmington, Missouri as an only child. Both of his parents are long deceased and my dad is an older man in search of information for health reasons. Talk about a brick wall! Someone out there must have information or has heard stories of someone in their family being given up for adoption or a child perhaps born out of wedlock. Or maybe due to the depression, someone could not continue to care for their child and gave them up to Catholic Social Services. No one here is passing judgement, just looking to solve a puzzle about my dad's origin. I can't image not knowing where I came from! Could anyone out there help me? I pray that someone reads this and forwards information to me. I thank you in advance. Lisa Hensiek lisahensiek@yahoo.com
Lisa, Today while searching for other records, I came across this site: http://discount.vip.sina.com/certificate/missouri-birth-certificate/missouri-birth-certificate.html You will need to scroll down until you see the words, Missouri birth certificate. It seems going to your legal representatives might also be an option. The paragraph below from that page. "At present, only a handful of states allow access to *birth* records without the consent of the *birth* parents; other states allow for "veto power" of an adoptee's request by the *birth* parents. Since the passage of Measure 58 in Oregon, Alabama passed a similar measure for adults aged 18 or older. (5) Missouri (6) and Georgia (7) have similar legislation in committee or subcommittee, and bills submitted in Arkansas, Connecticut, and Texas have either been defeated or are pending. (8) State or local public health departments, which are responsible for *birth* records, have absorbed much of the brunt of these legislative changes, but little is known about how they are affected. Indeed, we know of no other assessment of the impact on a public health department in terms of costs to the state, adequacy of resources available to the department, or the processes used to meet the needs of adoptees."
