    3. July 30, 2002 Sedalia Democrat Sedalia, Missouri Myrtle L. Smith, 1924-2002, Versailles Myrtle L. Smith, 78, of Versailles, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Ray County, a daughter of Thomas E. and Ora Schumate Fitzwater. On July 31, 1937, in Kansas City, she was married to Orville C. Smith, who died Oct. 17, 1965. Mrs. Smith retired from the Pillsbury Corp. in Joplin. She lived for several years in Kansas City, where she was a member of Sheffield Assembly of God Church. She moved to Versailles in 1988. She liked playing bingo, working with flowers and spending time with her family. Surviving are five sons, William E. Smith and Ronnie Smith, both of Kansas City, Orvel "Jack" Smith of Clinton, Jerry D. Smith of Versailles and Joe Smith of Overland Park, Kan.; four daughters, Sue Marriott of Stover, Barbara Smith of Kansas City, Janet Alpers of Versailles and Carolyn Jordan of Bellevue, Neb.; a foster daughter, Renee Sidenstricker of Purcell; a brother, Leroy Fitzwater of Basehor, Kan.; two sisters, Mary Cox of Sunrise Beach and Dora Parker of North Kansas City; 38 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson; a great-grandson; two brothers, Leonard Fitzwater and Marvin Fitzwater; and a sister, Edna Carlton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Washington Funeral Home in Kansas City with the Rev. Dinzel Webb officiating. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles and from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Washington Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or to First Baptist Church in Stover.
