April 27, 2004 Wooster Daily Record Wooster, Ohio WEST SALEM - Ruby Dorothy Hanshaw, 81, 14474 Franchester Road, died Monday morning, April 26, 2004, at her home, following a one-month illness. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Carl Wilson Funeral Home in Clay, W.Va. Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery in Leatherwood, W.Va. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston and Friday from 6-9 p.m. at Carl Wilson Funeral Home in Clay, W.Va. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691. She was born May 7, 1922, in Leatherwood, W.Va., to John and Josie (Grose) Fitzwater and married Romie Hanshaw in 1947. He died June 19, 1987. She graduated from high school in Clay County and attended the Advent Christian Church. She had made her home in Creston from 1962-1982 moving to Newton, W.Va. For the past several years she has lived in the Chloe, W.Va. and Creston area. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and Blue Grass music. Surviving are children, Merelene (Roger) Hooser and Gale (Mitchel) Hanshaw, both of Wooster, Russell (Hope) Hanshaw of West Salem, Jerri (Daris) Metheney of Creston, Debra (Ralph) Higgins of Waterloo, Ind., Ronnie (Rebecca) Hanshaw and Sheena (Ricky) Jarvis, both of Chloe, W.Va., Larry (Jimed) Hanshaw of Creston, Cheryl Hanshaw of Sterling and Diane (Ronnie) Rucker of Euklah, Calif.; two stepsons, Bill Hanshaw of Spencer, W.Va. and Bob Hanshaw of Ovapa, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and a sister, Alice (Herb) West of Wallback, W.Va. In addition to her husband, four brothers, Ralph, Lee, Wallace and Zane, died previously.
