    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GdW.2ACIB/235 Message Board Post: There have been some recent problems on the list. Because of this it is felt that it is time to remind the users of the message board as well as the mailing list about the rules. Ancestry, who owns the message board, has some very straightforward rules about postings. Please review the rules for Ancestry by going to the bottom of the message board page, and click on the link: “Message Board Rules” Here is the link to the Fitzwater message board: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=surnames.fitzwater At the bottom of the same message board is a link for “Message Board FAQ.” If you want to understand more about message boards, check this link. And if you can’t find the answer to a question you have, check the last link called, “Message Board Help.” Here you’ll locate answers to other important questions you might have. If you need further help, please ask the Fitzwater list Administrator. My e-mail is always listed under “Links and Announcements.” The rules for the Fitzwater mailing list are very much like those of Ancestry. RootsWeb sponsors our mailing list. The messages from the message board are “gatewayed” to the mailing list. For those who don’t know, any messages posted on the Fitzwater message board are automatically sent to the Fitzwater mailing list via the gateway! It is really rather handy! But, the gate only works this one way. Messages from the mailing list are NOT sent to the message board. If you would like to subscribe to the Fitzwater mailing list, or see the archives, follow this link: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/f/fitzwater.html At any time if you feel a posting on the message board is abusive, according to Ancestry’s rules, you can report the abuser at the Fitzwater message board page. Please read the rules so that you will understand what is expected of all posters to the board. If a person is found to be abusive, the person will be asked to refrain from the behavior. If there is still no positive outcome, the person will have their e-mail moderated. If this doesn’t help, their e-mail will be place on the reject list. This can last a week or longer. At the top of the page is a link called, “Links and Announcements.” This is information to help you make the best use of the message boards. Please read it at your leisure. If you want to know when anyone posts any message to the Fitzwater page (or any page), click on the link, “Add Board to Notifications.” Now, when someone posts a message on the message board, you’ll be amongst the first to know! Follow the links that are offered. You can’t break the page! (I already tried!) You’ll discover some wonderful ideas hidden in these pages! I hope you will again begin posting your Fitzwater queries to the message board as well as the Fitzwater mailing list. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me off list. Surnames: Fitzwater, Stiles Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GdW.2ACIB/227.1.1 Message Board Post: Katheryn, I’m quite surprised to read these questions from the author of “Fitzwater Families in America Revised 2003”, since you do seem to refer to both Augusta’s will & Thomas & Augusta’s marriage record in your book. In your private message to me you indicated that you had extracted copies of the will in the 1950's. But to answer your questions anyway, for the benefit of others who may not have this information & might wish to seek their own documentation: The marriage of Thomas Fishwater (sic) & Augusta Stiles is recorded at the Hamilton Co. OH Courthouse in the Restored Marriage records (restored following the 1884 fire & other previous fires) as occurring on September 9, 1832. This marriage is also referred to in a typescript “Marriage Records Hamilton County, Ohio 1817-1837” copied by the Cincinnati Chapter, National Society Daughters Of The American Revolution which also indicates that the marriage was preformed by T. Rich a Justice of the Peace (This is likely Thomas Rich who lived in the area now part of Loveland Hamilton Co., OH but then part of Symmes Twp., Hamilton Co., OH & according to a partial list in Ford's 1882 History of Hamilton Co., OH was a JP 1829 in Symmes ) & “Selected Counties of Ohio, 1789-1850 Marriage Index" CD # 400 available for purchase or by subscription from Family Tree Maker. I am sure that there are other publications of Hamilton Co., OH marriage records which refer to ! this marriage as well. The following census records in Ohio list Thomas & Augusta Fitzwater & the children as listed in Augusta's will. I won't give details here, but can upon request: 1850 Clermont Co., Miami Twp. pg. 120 visit 965/965 1860 Clermont Co., Miami Twp. pg. 215 visit 112/116 1870 Warren Co., Harlan Twp., PO Pleasant Plain pg 1(pg 328) visit 2/2 1880 Warren Co., Harlan Twp., ED 72 pg 321A visit 121/124 As to Augusta Stiles parentage, much research by myself & others has gone into researching the family of Benjamin Stiles & Margery Brewster. This board is not the place to list that information, nor do I think there would be many who read here that would find it of interest unless they had a specific interest in the family of Thomas Fitzwater & Augusta Stiles. For those who would like information regarding the current Stiles research, they may contact me privately. I like to clarify what I know of relationships mentioned in documents I find as often there are others who may be interested as well. As to Thomas Fitzwater's "exact date of death", I do not know. As I stated in my previous post, I have seen & also may have a copy here somewhere, of what was recorded in Warren Co., OH records. I can say with certainty that both Augusta & Thomas's death were recorded on the same date with information given by their daughter Sarah Stiles. This record was recorded some time after the date given for both death's & I think there was some disagreement between what was recorded here & what is listed as Augusta's death in her probate records. As I also stated in my previous post, by both Augusta's will & the probate records, there is every indication that Thomas died before Augusta. Because of other family obligations needing my immediate attention & my work schedule, it will be several weeks before I can contemplate a trip to Lebanon to seek a copy of the above record for the details of what is written about Thomas' death to comply with your request of an exact death date, if that is indeed what your intentions are in your response to my posting. If you have records giving Thomas' death date, perhaps you would care to share them with the rest of us who are interested in this individual? Linda Boorom

Our public libraries subscribe to the service. The information if FREE for the taking! You can locate census records (search engine is not as good as Ancestry, but you can find stuff!); you can use PERSI; you can see if your relative was in the Revolutionary War (then order his file!); and you can read books that have been scanned in. It is a wonderful research tool to help you locate your families roots!

    2. I am not sure if you know, butt any information that you put on the World Family Tree, they turn around andsell the information. I do not use it, nor do I put ay of my information on it. People who get their information off of it think it is well researched information. In several cases it isn't, someone just put their GEDCOMs on there and they are frequently not documented. Sometimes VERY wrong. Just an FYI as I found out many years ago the hard way.I was just dabblig with my geneology. Some people just starting think just because a name matches, it's theirs. Then they connect to it and add. Makes for a real mess. Katherine, you did a great job and I appreciate the work and money you put in to your book Paula Morris

It is her right and privilege to want to protect her work. The book she compiled is awesome and I would recommend it to everyone who has Fitzwater’s in their ancestry not only for their own enjoyment, but for generations to come. It is worth every penny and more! I just happen to think that the more information people have-the more information they want. At least that is my way of thinking. A lot of the information that was on my GEDCOM was from another Fitzwater cousin that had compiled a great deal of data. I copied it with their permission, but I do not know where they got the information. Perhaps it was from the 1992 edition of “Fitzwater’s in America”, I don’t know- so rather than cause anyone a problem- I removed the information from WORLD CONNECT. I want an official record for my children and grandc! hildren. That is why I purchased the book and am very grateful for what this author has done. She is without a doubt THE MOST knowledgeable person on the Fitzwater family. This will be my last word on the subject. Let’s get back to real research and fun with genealogy!!

I have not always noted my sources and couldn’t verify where some of it had come from so I removed what I wasn’t absolutely sure about. I had even sent the author of “Fitzwater’s in America” copies of deeds and Bible records for her to use in the revised edition that came out last year. I would think that having information out there would stimulate interest in her book rather than detract from it which is what she seems to think. I gladly share any information I have about genealogy and I have also put a lot of time and money into it. Chris

    3. Ms Devine, If I am to understand correctly that you are for real in your accusation of copyright infringement against myself & perhaps others who have any Fitzwaters in their World Connect file I am disgusted! Perhaps I should question you from where YOU received the information on page 233 of "Fitzwater Families in America Revised 2003" regarding where FREDERICK BOOROM was buried. There is only one document that records this information & he has no tombstone to mark his grave. IF you have a copy of this document, more than likely it is a scan of the copy I have which I sent to Leslie Lawson to prove my husbands Fitzwater decadency. I also think his son Edward Boorom's death you obtained from MY RESEARCH as well. Likely you received scans of other documents which I sent to Leslie to which only one original exists which remain in my possession. Granted, you had SOME information on this family, but some of the FACTS you now claim to own may have been published by you in your book but were not researched or FOUND by you, but others who found the information and SHARED it with you. How you can now claim to own those facts & that information just because you have published it in printed form is beyond me. I have since found additional information that you may have been interested in, but I am unwilling to have anyone claim ownership of these "facts" as I wish to continue to freely share my research as I please and not have anyone else now tell me they own the copyright to my research & I am no longer able to share it. Be it further known that I PUBLISHED those same facts I shared with you before you were aware of them on the internet in my own personal World Connect file so that I could freely share those facts for all who may be interested with the hopes of finding new found cousins & others interested in the same families as I am. I will not remove MY MATERIAL from MY FILE. None of what I have is from your book. Although I purchased a copy (so sorry I did now), your so called research is awaiting my own chance to verify research before I attempt to claim any of the Fitzwaters you seem to think you own as belonging to my husbands family. Since you are trying to make money on some of my research I think you owe me! Note that Ms. Devine specifically stated that I do not have permission to forward or duplicate her e-mail to me, hence at this time I have not. For the record, her message is accusing & threatening. Permission to forward & share THIS message is freely given by me. Linda Boorom My World Connect file: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=lboorom&I11.x=30&I11.y=2

    3. Anyone else receive an e-mail regarding their World Connect File infringing on copyright of the "Fitzwater Families in America"? I have a total of 17 Fitzwater's in my file gathered from my own research over the years of which I did via Leslie Lawson before publication of the above book submit documents related to my own research on my husbands ancestors for inclusion in the above mentioned book. Since nothing in my own personal files has been taken from the above mentioned book, but rather information from my personal research has been included in the above mentioned book, I am afraid I don't quite understand how there can be an infringement of copy on my part. Is this for real? or some kind of hoax?
