    3. It has been brought to my attention that some of you are upset that I don't post every obituary that has a Fitzwater surname in it. I wanted to clarify to the list that I don't seek "all things Fitzwater." The obituaries I do come across I post for your use. I do NOT however make it my life's ambition to locate every obituary with the Fitzwater surname located within it! I would encourage each of you to review newspapers you might read for the Fitzwater name in the obituary page. Then, if you locate one, cite it (date, name of paper, city of paper), and the obituary itself. If we all share the information, you never know who it will help! You'll note I've posted a great many obituaries over the years. Some of these I've mistakenly posted twice. For those who found this an irritating inconvenience, I'm sincerely sorry. It has never been my intention to waste your time reading a double post. Of course, it wasn't my intention to waste my time doing something twice! But, hey, I'm human, and it just might happen again! If you find it has, please feel free to hit delete! I am not an authority on research in all other states. I must rely on training, lessons learned, and other researchers for help when I enter a new arena. Just as you do. I have been notified by one poster who feels she is an authority that I am wrong to suggest anything at all for others research when I haven't spent as many years doing research as this person has. I must totally */disagree/* with this sentiment. We ALL have something to contribute. We ALL have more to learn. When I stop wanting to learn, I'm on my way out, boots up! No, I don't have all the answers, not by a long shot. But I'll share what I know. Even if that suggestion is a researcher I know that does have the answers! Yes, I do hire researchers in other states. They know the records intimately, and can get in and out in record time. We've had a poster who wants to sue all people who post Fitzwater family gedcoms. This poster has sent many of us threatening emails. After careful research, I can say without reservation, the poster is out of line. I've saved every letter she has written, with permissions granted freely. I've responded when asked to her requests. I've addressed her issues directly with Ancestry and Rootsweb (owned by Ancestry, but run separately). They feel the poster is out of line with her emails and her threats. If any of you have any specific concerns, please let me know. I'll gladly answer any questions you have to the best of my ability. The poster who has generated so much animosity has been permanently barred from posting on the Fitzwater mail list. This was done at Ancestry's suggestion. I would encourage any of you: if you have a problem with a fellow poster, please let the list administrator know first! Most times we can get the problem fixed, sometimes, we can't. 3. Lisa, Today while searching for other records, I came across this site: http://discount.vip.sina.com/certificate/missouri-birth-certificate/missouri-birth-certificate.html You will need to scroll down until you see the words, Missouri birth certificate. It seems going to your legal representatives might also be an option. The paragraph below from that page. "At present, only a handful of states allow access to *birth* records without the consent of the *birth* parents; other states allow for "veto power" of an adoptee's request by the *birth* parents. Since the passage of Measure 58 in Oregon, Alabama passed a similar measure for adults aged 18 or older. (5) Missouri (6) and Georgia (7) have similar legislation in committee or subcommittee, and bills submitted in Arkansas, Connecticut, and Texas have either been defeated or are pending. (8) State or local public health departments, which are responsible for *birth* records, have absorbed much of the brunt of these legislative changes, but little is known about how they are affected. Indeed, we know of no other assessment of the impact on a public health department in terms of costs to the state, adequacy of resources available to the department, or the processes used to meet the needs of adoptees." We have tried to petition the courts but to no avail. Apparantly the courts in Missouri are tougher on these adoption issues than almost any other state. We were told that when my father turned 70, the records would be opened. That has not happened either that is why I am back where I started with the Fitzwater message boards. And maybe this is something you've already tried, and if so, I apologize for stating the obvious. Have you considered petitioning the court where the adoption took place to unseal the records for medical purposes? Most states have provisions in their adoption laws that allow for this under certain circumstances. Have you called the court to ask about how this is done in Missouri? Generally the place to start is the probate or orphans' court in the county in which the adoption took place. Catholic Charities in that county could also be helpful. Many adoption agencies and courts now have special offices to deal with just this type of thing. I wish you good luck in your search.
