This Philander H Fitzgerald was the grand son of Joseph Hawkins Fitzgerald, born in Amherst in 1772, joined the Indian wars in Staunton in 1792, married Catherine Parkhurst in 1799 and died in 1854 in Ripley, Ind. It is strongly suspected that Joseph Hawkins to be a brother of Bartlett and Benjamin. Makes sense, but proving this is another thing. Regards, BH
