While I don't have any proof one way or another as to race I do have a picture which shows them in their later years. (attached you make the call) I wondered if this could be the real reason he was never acknowledged his parents again. I was always led to believe from my family it was because he refused to fight for the South during the Civil War and then enlisting in the Union Army. If this picture don't come through let me know?
