I am a Fitzgerald, my 4th GGF (Thomas) was born in Cork City in 1810, to a William and Catherine (Godson). Thomas married an Elizabeth Ambrose and emigrated to Sydney Australia in 1840/1841. Thomas had a brother, Richard who was born in 1807. There maybe links to Skibereen, but it's a little confusing, as some paternal links are also showing up as maternal links. I am not sure what happened to Richard, but the Skibbereen Fitzgerald's had links back to Limerick. I have done a DNA test, both deep tests on my Paternal / Maternal sides. Am awaiting the details of my Y-dna in a few weeks, but I have some very strong DNA to a "Cooke" family. I think it relates to the Fitzgerald side. I still don't have confirmed details just yet, but there seems to be a links to these families : Sheehan's, Hatch's Purcell's and Collins Brett.
