We knew it existed- used as first and middle names throughout history-but did not know the when and where. Now we want to know more. Thomas Fitzgerald was born in Ireland in Limerick abt 1760. I have found one line that says he came from a Garrett Fitzgerald(Killgobin,Limerick-Shannongrove,Limerick) and a Margaret Massey(Stoneville, Limerick-Shannongrove,Limerick). If this line is correct, his grandfather was Edmund Fitzgerald of M.I.Adare, Limerick who died 27 Jun 1757 in Kilgobbin, Limerick. He came to the New Hanover-Wilmington area (date unknown) and married a Margaret McAllister (date unknown) who was born (date Unknown)Father(unknown), Mother(unknown), Siblings (unknown). They had a child Margaret Mary Fitzgerald born in Wilmington who married John Gibbs on (date Unknown)of Brunswick. Mary's siblings were (unknown). John Gibbs was the child of William Gibbs (father and mother unknown) and Mary Gause (who traces back to William Gause) of Brunswick. John and Mary had three known children Magdelene Walker Gibbs (27 Dec 1817-NC-?Brunswick), Edward Fitzgerald (1820 in LA ??), and Julius Gause (27 June 1826 in Paris TN). John and Margaret left NC (date unknown) and settled in MS. One other interesting fact - a family ring exists with the initials MF. It has a small lock of hair from all the owners of the ring. It is passed down to the first female with the name Margaret. Supposedly it was first worn by a woman of nobility. I am guessing it came from a Margaret Fitzgerald. Needless to say, we have a lot of Margarets in the family tree. The last owner of the ring I am aware of was a Margaret White Buie in the early 1900's. Can anyone fill in any of the unknowns listed above and help me confirm/deny the Fitzgerald line listed above?
