Most of my Info came direct from my grandmother Carrie Mae Orlena Boston great grand daughter of Hartwell Marable Fitzgerald and Amanda Bowen so until someone proves it wrong I will go with what she had given me. As far as the picture I know Hartwell was declared dead and disinherited and all traces! was removed by his father Pleasant Fitzgerald in Maury Co. I read an article on someone else's family tree that there was a culture of people that no one was certain of their ancestry and they were often referred to as blacks, mulattos, native, and several other cultures. I am hoping to obtain some kind of records to prove or disprove any of this. I am curious since you have been doing a bit more of the research if you might be able to answer a question. On some family trees it shows my ggrandfather's mother was Ida Jane Fitzgerald and that her father was Frances Marion. On others I have found her name as Ida May and her father being Joseph. On the marriage certificate I found it says Ida Jane. Do you know the answer to who she really was and who her father was? They died when he was young and did not talk about them much while my mother (Mary Ann) was growing up. William and Lizzie was married 6 April 1907 in Moltnomah, Portland, Oregon. William was a practicing Podiatrist. The last city directory Lizzie was on was in 1916. William's past is horribly vague, but he did put San Francisco as a residence on the marriage license, and I found a William H. Eddy there from 1898 to 1905, and then he probably came up to Oregon and was courting Lizzie by that time. There is a "Elizabeth M. Eddy" at the Lincoln Memorial Park in Multnomah Oregon. That Elizabeth was born in 30 May of 1884 and died in 1973. My great grandmother "Lizzie's" birthday was told to be 11 September 1884. She was to have died when my grandpa Harold was around 7ish as his birthday was 4 March 1909. I did see an Eddy, 12 Oct 1917 Benton, OR; and a William Eddy 15 April 1929 Lane, OR. William died when Harold was around 13 or so. Harold went to live with Lizzie's younger sister, Aunt Addie & Uncle Joe Fitzgerald and her family in Seattle, WA. Claude and Irene had 4 children, Paul, Nadine (Felkins), Robert and Billy who died in OK about 1930. My grandparents and Claude's brother Robert and his family moved to the Wallace, Idaho area about 1937 to work in the mines. Nadine married and stayed behind in MO. Claude died in 1950 and my uncle Paul Fitzgerald also died about that same time. My dad, Robert, passed away in 2006. They all died in Idaho. Author: bbffrrpp Surnames: Fitzgerald, Smith, Dane Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fitzgerald/2329.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I just checked the archives of this Board to see if I had posted the newest information on Michael and Frances FITZGERALD, last of Bourne, MA. It seems I had not. Actually it was just a few weeks ago when I found or received brand-new and important information. When I found out that my husband's life-long friend, Michael FITZGERALD, had a long-lost grandfather, I took on the challenge to find out what happened to him. As in the above posting, in 2011 I had just found out who he married for his 2nd marriage. Miss Frances DANE from Malden, MA, was some 30 yrs. younger than he was. And, they married in / near Boston ~1938, and they never had children. I had found out that the couple had moved to Bourne, MA, and it was 1955. As above, Michael died in 1971, but Frances lived to 1999. With a few inquiries I had been able to read her obituary, and found out a little about her. She was both a hairdresser and an artist and was active in her church. (To me she sounds like a nice lady, and it's really a shame that none of her husband's children ever got to meet her.) Since the couple lived in Bourne from 1955 on, I had "assumed" that they were buried in Bourne. A few weeks ago we were having a snow-day, and I took a few minutes to e-mail the Town Clerk. With all the vital dates, I asked for a favor. She responded with my request for the place of burial. Big surprise - they were not buried in one of the many cemeteries in Bourne -- they were buried in Peabody, MA. It seems Frances' DANE family had arranged for the burial there. * The coincidence is that many of the great-grandchildren lived in Peabody for a long time, and never knew this. I also was reminded last month that the missing grandfather, Michael, only had the one, younger brother, John, and they were always close. When Michael and Ella separated ~1920, he went to live with John and his wife. He was with them a while. I just found out that the brothers were both salesmen - for a beauty-supply company. So, there's a good chance that is how Michael met Frances. It's before 6 am here, and my memory is not fully awake, so I can't offer more details at the moment. I do have basic information on John and his wife; they had 2 daughters and then a younger son. They started out in Stoneham, but the 1940 census has them living in Arlington, MA. I'm hoping the 2 brothers always remained close. But, the younger generation has no memory of having a great-uncle, John Fitzgerald, living near them in the next town. That's all I'll say for now. I have posted more details on other Lists and Boards, so it is available on-line. Betty (near Lowell, MA) * I tried to find current members of the extended DANE family and was not successful. I was hoping for at least a photograph of Michael and Frances. (I'm finding out that the .older. generation of Fitzgerald's my husband has known for 50 yrs., is not longer appreciating my efforts. I am "the outsider" and they don't want me to know their family-secrets.) :o( Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Their daughter Julia Fitzgerald married Joseph Dee in Massachusetts where they both had immigrated, they were both form the same community and knew each other in Liskeelty. Joseph's mother was Catherine Fitzgerald Dee also from that area. Catherine Fitzgerald Dee born in 1794 and her husband John Dee had 11 children, 10 of whom immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts. I have taken the DNA and my brother also has taken the DNA test on ancestry. John Dee and Mary Mansfield Dee had more children, an unknown female and two sons, Jeremiah "Jerry" and Thomas both born in the 1830's. We know little about the Fitzgerald family in that area.
