Back in 1999, a researcher on this list sent me some information about a John FITZGERALD, md to an Ann GREEN, who died in 1805 in Columbia Co, GA. They had children John, Chloe, Elizabeth, Sophia, Martha, Silas, Sarah, supposedly all born in Charles Co, MD. Is this known for a fact? Could they have been born along the way to GA? The John, b ca 1781 could very well be the John, b. 1784 in Spotsylvania Co, VA that I am looking for. Does anyone know who he married or what happened to him? The John born 1784 in Spotsylvania Co, VA that I am looking for, enlisted in Georgia for the Seminole War in Eastern Florida. I'm not sure what year he enlisted or where. He ends up in Washington Co, AL and then Jackson Co, MS in 1820. I believe him to be the father of Ellis Fitzgerald, b ca 1804 in GA. His granddaughter is named Sophia! There is also a John Fitzgerald found on the 1813 tax list for Putnam Co, Ga. Does anyone know who this is? Eleanor Colson

I am researching descendents of John Fitzgerald 1794 - 1869 and Johanna Fitzgerald Sullivan Fitzgerald 1800 - 1888. There were three Fitzgerald Children James, Edward (my Great Grandfather) and Julia and two Sullivan children Dennis and John. My great-grandfather had a sister named Ruby Montgomery born about 1871 in Oregon who married a man by the last name of Fitzgerald. According to her father's obituary in 1909 she was living in Shanghai, China! I do not know if she had any children or when she died. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If there are any descendants out there I'd be happy to share information about the Montgomery side of the family.

He was living in Georgia when he enlisted to fight in the Seminole Wars in Eastern Florida where he was wounded in the Battle of Fowlstown. I believe him to be the John Fitzgerald who is next found in Washington Co, AL and then is found in Jackson Co, MS on the 1820 census and on the 1825 tax records for Jackson Co, MS. I believe him to be the father of my Ellis Fitzgerald that I have been stuck on for a long time. Ellis was born ca 1804 in Georgia. I cannot determine which part of Georgia they were in before they moved to AL and MS. Ellis ended up in Mobile Co, AL by 1836.

I have a printout that my cousin recently gave me from a geneaological publication in either Amherst or Augusta County in the late 1980's. This deals with both the Bartlett and Benjamin mystery and their brother (?) Joseph Hawkins Fitzgerald who went on to KY and Indiana. I don't have the papers with me, but from what I recall, it states that John Joseph (?) Fitzgerald was married apparently 3 times, and had at least 21 children. Joseph may not have been his middle name, as Jos. might have meant John Senior on documents, as an attempt to differentiate him from a John Jr.. John Sr. came from County Cork, Ireland in 1735. My mother had always told me her Fitzgeralds were from Cork, but I had never seen reference to this fact until reading that article. The article does provide a few dates for marriage, and births, and some outline of his movements but I don't recall any more info. It also talks about why the Hawkins last name might have been used by Benj & Bartlett rather than Fitzgerald during the War. I'll try remember to dig up the article, or e-mail my cousin and have her post what she's got. Also, if you are descended from the Fitzgerald line, it would be wonderful to have you send your family info. to Henry Normand, the house geneaologist for the Fitzgerald Family Association. He's got many of the family lines traced, including the Carr, Campbell, Coffey & Colemans. His database is extensive, at the reunion last year I sat down with him and gave him all the pertinent data for my line. I'm interested in this line also if ya'll could please post responses to the entire list. BTW, you mentioned the source of Bartlett's middle name. In his application for a Rev. War pension are included afadavits saying that Bartlett Hawkins who served is in fact the same person as Bartlett Hawkins Fitzgerald. His brother Benjamin Hawkins Fitzgerald, also served under the surname Hawkins. I have yet to find an explanation for the name change. Thanks, Connie Whaley Kingwood, Tx.
