My GrGrGrandfather, Lawrence was born in 1882 in Small Point, Nfld. His father was Thomas b. abt. 1852 & one of GrGrGrGrandfather's brothers was Bernard b. abt. 1854. Besides Thomas & Bernard there were at least 8 more siblings all born between 1850 - 1875. Not sure if this helps but please let me know. Regards :) p.s. I'm wondering how extensive is your research so far & if you've been searching other sites that contain a lot of genealogy & historical information for the province??? As for the Bernard you found, I believe that is my great grandfathers, grandfather. As for how sure I am about western bay; The only granite tombstones in the small cemetery were put there by my father and his uncle. Also, the family still holds a parcel of land there I've been to multiple times Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. As for my Fitzgerald family search - my GrGrandfather, Lawrence Fitzgerald b. 1882 in Small Point, Nfld (Western Bay area); his parents names are Thomas & Eliza (King) Fitzgerald; Thomas' parents are James & Sarah (Whiteway?) Fitzgerald. The Fitzgerald name is found in many areas of Nfld - Western Bay/Bay de Verde; Harbour Grace & area; Bell Island/Holyrood/Conception Bay South; Placentia/Argentia area/ & St. John's area - to name a few. In my previous post, I noted other search sites to use as well. Fitzgerald out of Baraboo picked up his father James' body in Boston and brought it back to be buried in St. Aloysius Cemetery, in Prairie du Sac. That is just one little story from James' obituary. The PC Fitzgerald that I have written up might have abandoned his wife and four children after this. Email me at mfitzge1@wisc.edu during the work week or call me at (608)5922233 evenings. I have the PC Fitzgerald from Baraboo father's descendents written up. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Can you give me the URL for the site please? I am searchiing for my g/g/grandfather Timothy Fitzgerald b.1784/5 in Ireland and looking at all counties. I have been searching for many years so surely I am going to get lucky one day. I have him in Wales from 1841 onwards with daughter Mary Ann b.1835/6 as a widower but trying to find where both were born in Ireland. Many thanks, Mary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'll do some more digging. I have not record of a a brother James, but it is possible. Edward's father was named James, and the census for Birr, Ireland that I've seen was done 1821, which would have been before the birth of the James you mention. I have no record of a son for Edward, named John, born in Newfoundland. I have reviewed the web sites you listed, but I'll take another look. Thanks again. Edward migrated to Newfoundland around 1840, married a Bridget Doyle....". I have some info on two brothers, James & Edward, in Western Bay, Newfoundland referring to a document as noted by a story told by another resident - "Amongst other late arrivals were two Fitzgerald brothers, Edward and James. They took their claim to the rear and east of Larry Doyle. James was better known as "Foxy Jim - the Fiddler" who proved himself in this art with marked proficiency,..Edward had one son, John". James was born about 1825, not sure where born, and went on to have about 10 children. I don't have any further details for Edward. However, other areas of Newfoundland to research would be - Bell Island; Bonavista; Harbour Grace/Conception Bay North; Holyrood/Conception Bay North/Harbour Main and St. John's. Two sites to check into would be: > Newfoundland (Nfld)Grand Banks - ngb.chebucto.org >> Newfoundland Canada GenWeb - nl.canadagenweb.org Good luck! :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm wondering if you have any dates for birth/baptisms/marriages/deaths????...where were they residing in Western Bay??? How sure are you about Western Bay??? I notice that the spelling of your family name is different than the spelling of the name found, at least for the most part on Nfld, spelled as Fitzgerald. This is fairly common with a lot of names, for various reasons. You could also try the following: > FamilySearch.org >> Newfoundland Grand Banks - ngb.chebucto.org >>> Newfoundland Canada GenWeb - nl.canadagenweb.org >>>> RootsWeb.com I have a Bernard b. 1852 to James & Sarah Fitzgerald of Western Bay, Nfld; died 1934 in Western Bay, NL....would this Bernard Fitzgerald be a connection for you?? I'm trying to get started piecing together the family puzzle as well. My great-grandfather was from Western Bay, as were all his brothers. His name was Bernard FitzGerald. The brothers moved to Kitchener ON at some point, but his memoirs are very vague on when and why. They also don't delve too deep into his parents and grandparents. I believe his father was Patrick and his grandfather was Bernard but that could be incorrect. Hope this helps and hope I hear back from you!
