    3. I read somewhere quite some time ago, and I really wish I could remember where, that there were 3 major fisher lines in the US. I don't believe this means there aren't other lines just that there are 3 main ones. Does anyone know more about this? Thanks, Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis Reiley" <reiley@usol.com> To: <FISHER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2003 10:00 AM Subject: [FISHER] TWO Fisher lines? > Jan, > > Are you certain there are only two lines? 3. I know that there was a William Fisher that immigrated into Indiana 12/18/1855. I looked into it because my line was in Indiana around that time. He was too old to be the person I was looking for but may yet be a relative. He was in Switzerland Co. This was, of course, later than the main ones. 2. Mary Kocak
    3. I just want to clarify this message I sent about 3 main Fisher lines because I have received a few messages about this off the list. I didn't mean to confuse or offend anyone. What I meant was that I read somewhere, probably over a year ago, that there are 3 main Fisher lines in the US. I don't necessarily believe this, it was just something I read and I would like to go back and read the information again. The information I read may have very well been that there are 3 main lines that have been researched and/or documented more than others. I really can't remember exactly what it was that is why I asked the list if anyone knew anymore about this. One of these lines is my own. My line goes back to Daniel Fisher (b abt 1759) and Sarah Hines, Margaret Kress or some other unknown woman depending on who you talk to. I think the other line was the Jacob Fisher line that has been discussed on the list recently and I can't remember what the 3rd one was. Thanks, Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Kocak" <Mary_K@centurytel.net> To: <FISHER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2003 10:13 AM Subject: Re: [FISHER] TWO Fisher lines? > I read somewhere quite some time ago, and I really wish I could remember > where, that there were 3 major fisher lines in the US. > I don't believe this means there aren't other lines just that there are 3 > main ones. > Does anyone know more about this? > Thanks, > Mary > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Dennis Reiley" <reiley@usol.com> > To: <FISHER-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2003 10:00 AM > Subject: [FISHER] TWO Fisher lines? > > > > Jan, > > > > Are you certain there are only two lines? 3. Mary, I think you are right. I have read something similar to that. I can't remember the details either, but what it said was that there are basically 3 main Fisher lines - being the origin of the name. One is Irish and the plague has wiped most of those Fishers out and very few of them came to the US. The other line was a change in the spelling of the original name FISCHER - from Germany. Those two I think I am pretty accurate - this last explanation, I am not so sure about - but this was Fisher that was a change of the name Fissur or something like that from - I want to say Austria? It was a study that was done on the NAME and the 3 main origins of the name, if I recall. The purpose of the article was to explain that the name has three distinct origins that are completely unrelated. Maybe this will trigger more response.
