I came from Ensenda, Baja California in 1962. My G-g-grandfather was William Fisher, the main Jefe. My grandfather was Jose Maria son of Cipriano. Your William Fisher was probably the son of Cipriano Fisher who was son of William Fisher making your grandfather and my mom first cousins. You and I are cousins. See the attached: The following information was taken from the book "Guìa Familiar de Baja California" (Vital Statiscs of Lower California) by Pablo L. Martinez, published in 1965, which contains around 12,000 accounts of birth, baptism, marriage and death extracts from ecclesiastical and state records from 1700 to 1900. The founder of the Fisher surname in Baja was William Fisher, an American who was rebaptized in San Jose del Cabo on May 29, 1830 under the name of Jose Guillermo Ceseña, after his future father-in-law Cipriano Ceseña. He married a daughter of the latter, Liberata by name. (In those distant days, the non-Catholic immigrants had to be rebaptized in accord with that rite so they could become members of the community and above all, to be able to marry. The baptized foreigners generally adopted a Spanish first name and as last name they took that of their godfather, although in most cases they afterwards returned to the use of their original surnames, as William Fisher did). The couple had one daughter, Maria, and four sons: Fiacro, the twins Tomas and Cipriano (born on Nov 1, 1842) and Guillermo. This Guillermo died in San Jose del Cabo in 1879 at 37, and was the husband of Adelaid Mora, but it is not known if they had children. (Guillermo is the Spanish for William, and the times that the name appears on the records are in Spanish). After 1844, William and Liberata migrated to Alta California and many years later some of their children came to Baja. Cipriano married Manuela Mauriño (b. 1846) from San Jose del Cabo and had at least ten children; girls: Adelfa (b. 1875), Ana (b. 1890) and Rosaura. Boys: Guillermo (b. around 1865), Jose Maria (b. 1868), Jesus (b. 1887), Francisco (b. 1894), Carlos, Alfredo, Daniel and Eduardo (died at 7 or 8 yo). So, as you can see there a quite a few Fisher members in Baja. There other members in San Jose/Santa Clara California, if you contact me at [email protected], I can send you a picture with a whole lot of the Fishers up in San Jose. Some of the ones in Baja are brown and most of the ones up north are white :>) Hope to hear from you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
