Still trying to trace my Catherine Fisher, said to be born in NC about end of Rev War. Her first name may well have actually been Mary Catherine Fisher. Catherine Fisher married Mathias Berry. I find children born to them beginning about 1790s, so assume marriage is near that time as well. Mathias and Catherine Fisher-Berry lived for a time in Catabwa County, NC, I believe. That's where their daughter and my ggggrandmother was born: Barbara Berry married Solomon Huit on Dec 16, 1829. Mathias and Catherine Berry were already removed to Brown County, In, where Mathias and his sons were stone masons. Barbara and Solomon left for Indiana in spring 1830, settling in Knox County, IN, where I found other Fishers, Berrys and Huits/Huets/Hewitts (all same family) living. I have info of Berry family linking Mathias back to VA and previous to that, to New ENgland. I have the Huit info linking them to PA and before that to Germany (line begins with Phillip Huyette of Germany). Can't find a danged thing out on Fisher lines. I've been told the Fishers were also German, but that doesn't explain the Cherokee recognition applications I find among the Indiana descendents -- unless the Cherokee entered via the Berry or even Huit lines. Keep hoping if I keep posting, someone will recognize this name and be able to help me link with this very frustrating line. suze _________________________________________________________________ 5.5%* 30 year fixed mortgage rate. Suze, I have several Mary's that I don't have a spouse for. The Berry's I have are from Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia...a couple look like they went to Texas, but no Mathias Berry either. You've got my Berrys in the right spot of Va. The problem with the Berrys is that all the boys were named John -- but used middle name. I've not found if Mathia Berry actually was Mathias, or if he too was also a John Mathias. If you have a Jacob Berry in your Va Berrys, we've got a link. Next thing: Some of the same Berrys did indeed go to Texas. It sent cousins and I on so many 'dead ends,' until we realized that John thing. If you have a John M, his middle initial likely stands for John Mathias. His family did go to Texas. Story: Jacob Berry and Mathias Berry were brothers who migrated from New England to Va. Their father was a Nehimiah (may not have spelled it right) Berry. I found his will. His executor was my OTHER ancestor: Job Foss. (Now ain't THAT interesting?) After Nehimiah died, he left the bulk of the estate to Jacob. Not the oldest brother. Mathias was. Oops! Falling out between brothers. Mathias picks up stakes and moves to Meklenburgh County, NC. That's where my Mathias Berry is born about the end of the American Rev. Don't know anything about his mother -- no name. This second Mathias grows up, marries Catherine Fisher (or is it actually Mary Catherine, as her granddaughter was named? My gggrandmother could not be found until I found papers showing her name was Mary Catherine, not Catherine Hewitt. Everything shows Catherine -- one legal document in the library showed Mary C. Finally!) Anyway, I don't know how Catherine Fisher and Mathias Berry got together. I only know they were married, maybe, in Catabwa County -- where other Berry relatives also lived in NC. (Oh, and they also liked the name RIchard a lot! Another story!) Hope that helps connect some dots somewhere. These Fishers are driving me nuts! Even my Taylor, Cox and other rather hard names to reserach have been solved. Go figure.... suze >From: Lainee Denton-Jones <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [FISHER] Fishers in NC >Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2007 07:10:09 -0500 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Received: from lists9.rootsweb.com ([66.43.27.45]) by >bay0-mc12-f5.bay0.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.2668); Mon, >19 Mar 2007 05:10:43 -0700 >Received: from lists9.rootsweb.com (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1])by >lists9.rootsweb.com (8.13.8/8.13.8) with ESMTP id l2JCAZII016783for ><[email protected]>; Mon, 19 Mar 2007 06:10:41 -0600 >Received: from mail.rootsweb.com (mail.rootsweb.com [192.168.65.34])by >lists9.rootsweb.com (8.13.8/8.13.8) with ESMTP id l2JCAYnd016780for ><[email protected]>; Mon, 19 Mar 2007 06:10:34 -0600 >Received: from eastrmmtao107.cox.net (eastrmmtao107.cox.net >[68.230.240.59])by mail.rootsweb.com (8.13.8/8.13.8) with ESMTP id >l2JCACIf001859for <[email protected]>; Mon, 19 Mar 2007 06:10:33 -0600 >Received: from eastrmimpo02.cox.net ([68.1.16.120]) by >eastrmmtao107.cox.net(InterMail vM.7.05.02.00 201-2174-114-20060621) with >ESMTPid ><[email protected]et>for ><[email protected]>; Mon, 19 Mar 2007 08:10:08 -0400 >Received: from Lainee.earthlink.net ([74.194.123.124])by >eastrmimpo02.cox.net with bizsmtpid ccA71W00P2h8uqq0000000; Mon, 19 Mar >2007 08:10:08 -0400 >X-Message-Info: >5ZHoJh3ZkQ2beHhjtR/LqyV+qsO58RBWaodWEHlCsGa5E1I9Q3Y/nqs5ZM0bsfgK >X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 7.0.1.0 >References: ><[email protected]><[email protected]> >X-Spam-Score: 4.8 (****) BAYES_99,FORGED_RCVD_HELO >X-Scanned-By: MIMEDefang 2.57 on 192.168.65.34 >X-BeenThere: [email protected] >X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.7 >Precedence: list >List-Id: <fisher.rootsweb.com> >X-Loop: [email protected] >X-Member: [email protected] >List-Unsubscribe: ><http://lists9.rootsweb.com/mailman/listinfo/fisher>,<mailto:[email protected]?subject=unsubscribe> >List-Archive: <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index?list=fisher> >List-Post: <mailto:[email protected]> >List-Help: <mailto:[email protected]?subject=help> >List-Subscribe: ><http://lists9.rootsweb.com/mailman/listinfo/fisher>,<mailto:[email protected]?subject=subscribe> >Errors-To: littlefox7:[email protected] >Return-Path: [email protected] >X-OriginalArrivalTime: 19 Mar 2007 12:10:43.0733 (UTC) >FILETIME=[9E657C50:01C76A1F] > >Suze, > >I have several Mary's that I don't have a spouse for.
