    1. Re: [FISHER] Fisher family
    2. Chris, The first set of results we got back mentioned Sri Lanka. (My husband uses this a lot!) He matched perfectly with a man in California, and his wife and I have been corresponding. We have placed both families of Fishers in Mississippi in the late 1820s. We both have indications that they had migrated from North Carolina - most likely Surry/Stokes County. \ I believe my set of Fishers (husband's really) came to MS by way of Illinois. Our G W Fisher's oldest son says that he was born in Sangamon Co., Illinoia (I believe he had a different mother), and the next few children were born in Mississippi. The final three were born in Louisiana. The other Fisher family came through Mississippi and then Arkansas and on to Texas. My husband's Fishers were in Van Zandt, Texas by 1850. We took our DNA up a notch and once again matched perfectly. That brings us to within 200 years of a common ancestor. I have been away from active genealogy for the past year, but would like to get back with our California Fishers and take the DNA up another notch. Sue In a message dated 12/10/2007 8:33:16 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Sue, Yes I did get his DNA results back and it showed we were Haplogroup J1. This Haplogroup is mostly from the Middle East. We do not match with most Fishers. Now I have photos of Rev. George W. Fisher, his son Samuel M. Fisher, his son George Nicholas Fisher, his sons John (my cousin's father and George Frederick (my father) and they all look so much alike there can be no possibility of a "non parental event" in any generation since 1808-1810. My father always maintained our Fishers were from Germany, used to have money and horses. He thought they came to Virginia and the name of the furthest he could remember was Luther. This sounds sort of like the Germana Fishers but I have not been able to connect to this Fisher family either. My father never heard of a genealogist and was just passing on information he had been given by his father and grandfather. Now Middle Eastern traders did move up into Europe a long time ago so it would be possible I guess. What a mystery. Do you have DNA results for your Fisher line? If so I would love to compare. I was so in hopes your G. W. Fisher would tie into our G. W. Fisher lines. Sue Fisher In a message dated 12/10/2007 7:29:33 P.M. I haven't been able to find anymore information on this particular couple. I need to make a trip back out there but the genealogy library is only open two hours on the days they are open and it doesn't give one much time to look. Thank you for finding this for me. I appreciate it more than you know. As I said in an earlier post, I have an elderly cousin in very poor health who has been so interested over the years in helping me find our Fisher Family history. He let me submit his DNA for the Fisher study. I so want discover our history past knowing that Rev. George W. Fisher was born 1808-1810 in Kentucky. Thank you again, Chris Fisher Thiessen -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] I found a Rev George W Fisher marrying a Francis M Travis on 6-10-1856 in Shelby Ill.?
