    1. Re: [FISHER] Fisher family

    3. Yes, Nancy Hibler is George W. Fisher's wife. The birth year of 1791 is wrong. I don't know who put the information on Ancestry/Rootsweb but it isn't correct. I have them on the 1850 census and Nancy gave her birth year as 1803 and that she was born in Missouri. Her children later gave census information that their mother was born in Missouri. Her parents and family moved to the St. Louis area from Kentucky about 1799. So I am confidant that 1803 is the correct birth year-also her last child was born in 1841. 1791 would have put her age at 50 which would not be impossible but not likely. Long story-I had been looking at this Nancy Hibler who married a George W. Fisher but had found no marriage data on them (also thinking that the birth date data of 1791 on Rootsweb/Ancestry was correct). I made a trip to Shelbyville, Illinois the summer of 06 to do research because I knew that my gt grandfather Samuel M. Fisher was born in Illinois. I discovered a marriage license for a Nancy Simmons and George W. Fisher. I still had not connected Nancy Simmons to Nancy Hibler although I knew Nancy Hibler's father's name was SAMUEL. After I returned home to the Springfield, Missouri area I was at our local wonderful genealogy library searching for any clues. I was getting ready to leave, dejected because I had not found anything and walking past the last row of books on my way out a book titled "Divorces in Missouri up to 1850" just appeared. It was a thin book. I still don't know why it caught my eye. Any way for what ever reason that book just "jumped out at me". I looked under the name of Fisher and didn't find anything. I looked under the name SIMMONS - lo and behold there was a record of divorce for Nancy nee` HIBLER from William D. Simmons in 1829. I couldn't wait to send for the record from St. Louis. When court records finally arrived I discovered that Nancy Hibler and William Simmons were married in 1821 (I think-don't have my papers right here now.) They had two small boys. He went out of state in 1824 on business and was never heard from again. She continued living in their home until all of the money ran out and then moved back in with her parents. In 1829 she filed for divorce and it was granted. Now, did tragedy befall William Simmons? Or did he just leave his wife and two small boys? Another mystery. I have found no information about him. Probably Nancy was visiting her sister who lived in Shelbyville, Illinois, in 1833 and met George W. Fisher. They were married early in 1834. My Samuel M. Fisher was born in 1835. Three girls were born in St. Louis County in the late 1830's and 1841. George W. Fisher is found on the St. Louis 1840 census with this family in the appropriate age groups. I have "met" wonderful Hibler cousins online and they have shared family history on the Hibler family. My grandfather George Nicholas Fisher (1862-1941) had an old diary where he wrote the death date of his grandfather George W. Fisher 22 June 187_. The last digit is on the edge of the page and it is so frayed I cannot make it out. I have Rev. George W. Fisher's Bible that he gave to his son Samuel M. Fisher after 1873 (published date in Bible). As an aside-there is another Rev. George W. Fisher in Shelbyville, Illinois in the next generation. I have been unable to determine who his parents were and how he connects to my Rev. George W. Fisher. Mysteries, mysteries! I didn't intend to write a book, but this has been such a journey and I am so anxious to find out what happened to Nancy and George. I find no record of Nancy after the 1850 census although there are records of Rev. George W. Fisher in Shelbyville, Illinois until about 1854. I have an older Fisher cousin that is in very poor health and he would so love to know the history of our Fisher family. George W. Fisher was born in Kentucky in 1808-1810 and that is as far as I have discovered. Chris Fisher Thiessen Ps. I live on the "Old Fisher Farm" that was purchased 1895. Samuel M. Fisher and George Nicholas Fisher, George Frederick (my father) and I have all lived here, plus two generations of my daughter's family. So six generations of Fisher descendants have lived on this beautiful place and I would love to solve the mystery of where we came from!! Yes, it is designated a "Century Farm". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` Nancy Hibler, born in Paris, Bourbon Co, Ky 1791 ring a bell? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Just a note on my Fisher Family. I did discover last summer that my Rev. George W. Fisher was married to Nancy Hibler-Simmons in 1834 in Shelbyville, Illinois. She was there visiting a sister and her physician husband. George must have been living in Shelbyville at that time. After their marriage they lived in Shelbyville for a couple of years then moved to St. Louis County where Nancy's parents Samuel & Rebecca Hibler lived. They lived in St. Louis County from 1836 until the late 1840's. They moved back to Shelbyville, Illinois and George W. Fisher was involved in starting one of the first schools there. I lose track of them after 1854 until George W. Fisher is living with his son Samuel in St. Louis County in 1870. Rev. George W. & Nancy Fisher named their children Samuel M., Martha Ellen, Louisa and Julia. Rev. George W. Fisher was affiliated with the Methodist Church. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?
