While he lived in Manitowoc, Wisconsin from ca. 1875 to 1902, he died in the Soldier's Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 20 March 1904. He married Maria Dorothea Heiden, daughter of Gustine and Johan Heiden, in Manitowoc on 31 March 1875. They had three children, Louis John, (B. 1877), Ida (B. 1879) and Alma 1881.
