I am the 14th Gtreat Grandson to Edward Fyshe b1475-1518 at Gt. Bowden Leicestershire UK. As yet I have not gone any further back in time, but I understand that the name Fish was derived from an old English nic name of FISC. It wasnt untill the reign of Edward 11nd (1307-1327) that surnames were used. Earlier details of the name were recorded in 1202 Ernish Fish of Lancashire, 1297 Robert le Fysch of Northumberland, 1327 Robert le Fissh of Somerset and 1327 Radulphus Fysche of Yorkshire. If you are still researching your "tree" I hope this is of interest. I have often wondered how our Family name spread over the "pond" you appear to hold the answer!! Kind regards Geoff Fish Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
