I know you have searched for his parents, etc., and it really seems he first shows up in the 1860 Census, and, he and Susannah apparently married that year. I know mistakes are sometimes made in the census's, and wonder if the 1850 census, http://search.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=8054&iid=4203579_00080&fn=Joseph&ln=Fisher&st=r&ssrc=&pid=19732619 is correct, showing a Joseph Fisher in Catawba County, but 16 years old? I know the age is incorrect, but wonder if this could possibly be him. I am sorry he does not appear in the book, but, maybe you are from a different Fisher line, like I am.
