Fisher, Samuel Davis, Pvt Co F; mustered Sep 25, 1861; in 1862, assigned as telegraph operator at Piedmont, Maryland; captured at Carter's Woods, deserted Camp Parole, and returned to the regiment October 12, 1863; wounded May 13, 1864 at Spotsylvania; discharged Jun 29, 1865; a stone cutter from Oxford Township, Adams County; 5' 6", brown hair, gray eyes; born @1841/42, the son of John & Barbara Fisher; siblings: John, Sarah, and Mary; married Francisca E. Middlemoser December 31, 1867, in Gettysburg; in 1872, lived in Lewis, Cass County, Iowa; died in Curwensville, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, grave site unknown; the widow Frances later remarried a Sandoe and lived in Holt County, Nebraska While I'm at it, here are the other Fishers who served with the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry. 1) Fisher, Richard M. (a.k.a. Falls, Richard M.), Pvt Co H; mustered Aug 3, 1864, as a substitute for Henry Horst; left the hospital November 3, 1864, but overstayed his furlough and was arrested December 2 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; court-martialed, and found guilty but only of absent without leave; wounded at Petersburg April 2, 1865; discharged Jun 21, 1865; a laborer from Watsontown, Northumberland County; 5' 8", sandy hair, blue-gray eyes; born @1827/28; listed Christian Fisher as next of kin; buried ? 2) Fisher, Silas, Pvt Co B; drafted Jun 3, 1864; shot in the back of the neck at 3rd Winchester and in the hospital through December 1864; discharged Jun 29, 1865; a farmer from Fulton County; 5' 10", light hair, gray eyes; born @1842/43, the son of Ludwig Fisher; married Susanna Strait February 18, 1866; children: Simon Albert (b. 04/16/69), Anna Malinda (b. 08/13/72), and Anna Bell "Billie" (b. 03/30/85); died May 21, 1900; buried in Methodist Cemetery, Warfordsburg, Fulton County, Pennsylvania 3) Fisher, James C., Pvt Co I; mustered Sep 12, 1861; sick in hospitals in New Creek, Grafton, and York from July/August 1862 for the next year; appeared to return to active duty for a month or so, and then succumbed again, dying of "chronic diarrhea" Oct 26, 1863 in Columbian Hospital, Washington DC; born @1832/33; a miller from New Oxford, Adams County; 5' 9", sandy hair, gray eyes; married Louisa ?; children: Anna (b. @1857) and Louisa (b. @1859); in 1860, worked for well digger Joseph Martin in Oxford Township, Adams County; probably buried in the Military Asylum Cemetery, Washington DC
