    1. [FISHER] gen. inf restore help needed
    2. good morning all. I 'm  hoping someone can help me, IM working with Windows XP and FtM v s. 10. I had  backed  up all my genealogy information, and last night was restoring it all back to FTM.   All information that is on one  floppy  worked  fine,  and  had  not trouble with restoring, I have  two families with more then one floppy, and when is tart the restoring procedure, it takes the first floppy fine, and says insert floppy 2, when floppy two is inserted then a FTM error comes up and says " a severe internal error has occurred.  Please  quit and restart  FTM".  which i have done that.  and it still comes  up, How do I retrieve my information from these floppis?  Has anyone else had this trouble?  Would appreciate any input on this.. Thank you Debbie Pace,  Fla.

    3. Debbie, you probably have a bad floppy or data on it. I would recopy the data and then try to reinstall. Also try to get all of one item on a single floppy, using multiple floppies is always risky, I don't care what the pros say. Check the usable space before adding each additional item to the floppy. Also when transfering files from one FTM program in one computer to another, even when they are the same version, it is best to first export to GEDCOM, copy to disc, then insert the disc in the second computer, paste to the My Documents folder and then import the GEDCOM into FTM. I just did a format on my computer. Prior to doing it I first copied everything to disc, making sure that if it asked for a second disc that I aborted, inserted a fresh disc and recopied that file so that it had all of one file on one disc. I also checked each disc to make sure I could open each file on the disc from the disc, doing so gives you proof that you have a good copy. Only then did I format. Then I reinstalled my programs. Defragmented the hard drive. Only then did I copy the files from the discs back to My Documents folder. And defragmented my hard drive a second time. That gave me both a solid software installation and all my files back on a solidly functioning computer. I also took my time to avoid errors, four days. Rushing it would still have taken a day to a day and a half.
