Sometimes the person who was home when the census taker came around didn't know and just guessed. Two year variation is almost expected, and I've seen people change birth year by as much as 10 years between two census. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. But when I tracked the family below, it turned out to be a false lead. The only Mary Stapleford on the 1900 census, b. Maryland to German parents is the following, but the year of birth is a couple of years off. Possibly they aged her a couple of years when they married, and stuck with that age. 1900 census Pikesville, Baltimore, Maryland Fisher, Louis, head, b. Mar 1854, m 23 yrs, Ger Ger Ger, farm laborer Bertha, wife, b. Jan 1852, m 23 yrs, 5 of 6 children living Mary, Dau, b. Feb 1885, MD Ger Ger Louis W, son, b. Nov 1886, MD Ger Ger George F, son, b. May 1889, MD Ger Ger Nellie A, dau, b. Dec 1892, MD Ger Ger 1910 census has Louis named as Ludwig A Fischer, and Bertha as Bertha V, with the same children. Ludwig was married once, Bertha twice. Immigration dates blurry, possibly 1884. 1920 census unfortunately rules out this family as daughter Mary is back with them Searching for Mamie, I think I found her, dau of William and Annie. I'll need to post that later as I have to get to work now. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This appeared in the Jan. 20, 1848 issue of the Lime Rock Gazette (Rockland, Maine): "SHIPWRECK - The sch. Lion, of Dennis, from Philadelphia 2d inst., for Boston, split her mainsail on Wednesday the 5th when 50 miles south from Gay Head; and on Thursday a similar accident occurred to the foresail, at which time she sprung a leak and threw over deck load. On Saturday, at 3 P.M. the Lion sruck on skiff's Island Reef, at the mouth of Muskeget Channel, where she thumped hard and leaked badly; and the sea running very high, the Capt. found it necessary to throw over anchors and some coal, and finally to abandon her; which he was enabled to do through the exertion of Capt. Gamaliel Fiher and others who went to his assistance, and brought him, with his crew, to this port, early Saturday evening. The Lion went to pieces during Saturday night. She was loaded with coal. Vessel and cargo insured. (Edgarton Gazette)" Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Unfortunately, none had been identified with names, but they would be of members from either of these families. I posted them on my 'Nealon' Public Tree on Ancestry.com but no one seems to be able to access them. There was a Carol and B.Webb who wanted to view them, but could not access my tree. If you will contact me here, I will try again to send the photos to you to cross reference against any you may have to see if they are of the same family. It seems a shame to have these photos just lying in storage. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Several weeks ago some kind person invited us to look at a book he had loaded to the web. It concerned information about SEBASTIAN FISHER and others of this same family in Central PA. I have misplaced the address that was given to us. If someone will publish the address again, we would be most grateful. Harold C. Fisher
