We need to get Jimmy or Donny to have their DNA tested so we can see if there are others that may connect. That's why I made the inquiry. In a message dated 3/23/2010 8:51:59 A.M. There are two surname projects that may be of interest to this group FISHER and FISCHER. FISHER DNA Project description on FTDNA "We aim to determine the genetic and genealogical origins of Fisher families whose ancestors came from Britain. Whether or not you have traced your family tree, join us and discover something about your origins, which documents can never reveal" Here is the description of the Fischer DNA Project from FTDNA. "The Fischer DNA Project is for all who wish to work together to find their common heritage through DNA testing and sharing of information. If your name was angicized from Fischer to Fisher, you are welcome to join this Fischer project. If you believe your ancestry is English, please join the Fisher project. (Fisher is a separate project.) Please visit our website and add your family to the Patriarch Page." I am the Fischer DNA Administrator and we try to have our Earliest Known Ancestors Posted with our results. Sometimes we are not given that information so we post the initials of the contact person. On our Patriarch Page, we post the pedigree along with the contact person's name and contact information. We also have some Pedigrees of folks who have not yet tested for various reasons such as waiting for test results or looking for a connection. Hi Mary! The Fisher DNA project is at FamilyTreeDNA. However, the problem I have with the website is that there is no way to determine who is the Most Common Recent Ancestor on the yDNA results page. I suggest that the administrator add a column for the Most Common Recent Ancestor/Patriarch so that others of us can see who the Patriarchs of these families are. For instance, a Fisher cousin of mine took the DNA test, but I can't tell you which results are his. Also, another Fisher male I know of took the test and I can't determine which results are his either. I would like to see how many markers they are off. The submitter's name does not have to be made public, just the last ancestor that they have documented so that others can see if their 'cousins' have tested and determine who else may need to be tested in order to gain a match. From what I understand, my cousin and this other friend did not match, even though the 2 Fisher lines were in the same area at the same time (Greenville/Spartanburg SC.) It would help some of us from having to research in other areas. My particular Fisher line Most Common Recent Ancestor would be James Washington Fisher, SR (RW) of Caroline Co, MD/Greenville-Spartanburg Co, SC/Transylvania Co, NC.He was born abt 1753 in Caroline Co, MD and died in 1832 in Macon Co, NC (present day Transylvania Co, NC). Here is how the Bolling DNA project uses their results: Kit, Last Name, Earliest Known Ancestor per individual, Fh#, Haplogroup, Markers Using this format, I can find that someone has tested for several 'Patriarchs' in the Greenville/Spartanburg SC area and that my particular Bowling's fall into Group 6 somewhere. The results are divided into groups according to the matching markers. (James Washington Fisher, SR's son, James JR married Darcus Bowling in Spartanburg Co, SC in 1815/16. No documented proof of her father's name has been found, but circumstantial evidence of her mother is out there.) This type of format works well for the various Bolling families. I think it would work well for the various Fisher families as well. Patricia Cantrell, Historian Fisher Family Reunion (Lake Toxaway, NC) ==================================== Where can I find out more about the Fisher DNA project and the person in charge. That's a good way to look for ancestors. Our family has done this for another side of the family and we found four close cousins this way and more knowledge about where our ancestors came from. Thanks, Sue. I am glad you have a match on the Fisher DNA project! Very interesting that both were in Mississippi in the same time frame. My Fisher line has no matches and we are J1 haplogroup. It is a very unusual one I am told, so hopefully we will have a match someday. I will be looking for the CD. Thank you again. Jim My maiden name was Fisher and I had a grandfather by the name of George Fisher but he lived in Missouri his entire life and died in 1941 at the age of 79. I had a cousin tested and discovered that we are not Fishers! Don't know what we are-we have no matches and do not match any Fisher line, but hopefully some day we will have a match. I have photos of my father, grandfather, great-grandfather and 2nd gt-grandfather and they all look enough alike that I don't suspect any non parental event before when 2nd gt grandfather George W. Fisher was born in 1808. I have had several other cousins tested in other lines and we have had some success. I have had my own DNA tested. I don't think there is anything to be concerned about having it done. So what if you are adopted? You are still you. Back hundreds of years ago orphans were taken in by neighboring families and raised as their own. Who knows? I think DNA is the most reliable way of discovering "who" you are!! Good luck in your search! My Sarah was actually Sarah Dorchester (1831-1860 daughter of Albin and Mary) prior to her being married to My great grandfather John Fisher (1832-1909). I think she died after child birth as their daughter Sarah Dorchester Fisher (1860-1913) was born then and first cared for by her brother and his wife, later cared for by John Fisher's sister Katherine and her husband Edward VanSlyck. Sarah first married George Cassidy and they had a son Walter. Years later she married a Mr. Ray. I do have family connections in Madison County, NY, not familiar with the names you mention, but will sure check on any kinship. Do you have a guess of a time frame of the photo album? THANKS! I'm not sure how they're related to your Sarah Fisher. There are pictures of William and Mary Hunt Fisher, Anne Fisher Richardson, James Fisher, some Broners, Rangers and Addison D. Carpenter as well as an obit for his daughter Mary Carpenter Cattell, a 'cousin' to Authur, Seymour, and Seward Fisher. Please let me know if you're interested- I'm happy to share. That's seven generations that are absent. None of my line connects to KY or PA and so far I've not found many connections except in OH. Our progenitor, the founding Fisher, arrived in MA or RI in about 1660 around our just after the four Fisher brothers arrived in Dedham, MA. I can't make the connection but it seems it should link up. So far I've found a lot of "I-think-this-might-be-related" copies showing up in the various genealogy sites, all copied from the same guesswork. Joan, contact me privately if you think you and I have a connection. Jim fish9111@comcast.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
