He was born in 1833 in Virginia. At the age of 16, he was living in Marshall, Indiana in the household of Stever Younger. After he married, he and his wife, Rachel, continued to live in Marshall Indiana and reared five or so children, including my grandfather, Walter O. Fisher. Walter became a brakeman on the railroad and eventually moved to Villa Grove Illinois. He married Myrtle Hodson, and they seven children, including my father, Harold Russell Fisher. I have found three generations of Thomas Henry Fishers starting in 1850 - he and his son (same name b1875) were lightermen and I believe there was a brother working on the river also. Th. H Senior senior died through drowning in 1898 and I wondered if there are any details of this. If anyone has any information they can add I would be most grateful. However, John and his wife Martha Jane moved to the Ravenna, Buffalo Co. area around 1888. Some of their children may have followed later. Sweetwater is just west of Ravenna on Nebraska Highway 2. Martha died April 25, 1915, and John was still alive for the 1920 Census. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jetgartner Surnames: Fisher, Miller Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fisher/8024/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Searching for information on the Thomas M. Fisher, 1825-1896, buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril, Van Buren Co., IA and Ellen F. Fisher, also buried there, who may have been his daughter. This may be the Ellen Fisher who was the wife of Isaac Miller. The birth and death dates are correct for our Ellen Fisher (1853-1886), but if this is her it raises the question of why she was buried as Ellen Fisher and not Ellen Fisher Miller? Is she buried in a Fisher family plot? Further information on our line: Ellen Fisher m. Isaac Miller in Van Buren Co., IA in Jan. 1876. Four boys were born to them: Charles in Aug. 1876 in Iowa, Ed, 1878 in Kansas, Frank 1881, Benjamin Thomas 1882 in Cantril. Isaac Miller apparently left the boys in Cantril with relatives after the death of Ellen, moved to Lincoln Co., MO, remarried there in 1889, then came to reclaim the boys and move them to Lincoln Co., MO. According to family history, little Ben was scared of his dad, not knowing who he was after so many years absence. I feel pretty confident that the Ellen Fisher buried in Maple Grove is our Ellen as no grave site, death certificate or record of her death exists in Missouri where Isaac and the boys lived out their lives and are buried. If you can shed any light on this little mystery or have any more information on this family, I would love to hear from you.
