I have the very same feeling about my Fisher line. I do know that my Christian Gottlieb FISHER, born April 1843 in Wuerttemberg, Germany, came to the USA approximately 1850. When he enlisted in the Union Army in 1861, his family lived in Woodville, Sandusky County, Ohio. I do not know the names of his parents or siblings. He married in Missouri after the war. Lena, Unfortunately, I do not know where in Illinois my Fishers were. I do know that my great grandfather Samuel M. Fisher was born somewhere in Illinois in Jan. 1835. He was living in St. Louis county in the late 1850's until the 1880's when they moved to Springfield, Missouri. His son George Nicholas Fisher traveled from Southwest Missouri (Springfield) all the way to Vermilion County, Illinois in 1890 to marry Mary Elizabeth Ary. Vermilion County is on the far east side of the state of Illinois. I'm guessing there must have been some connection to this area. He was working as a clerk in his grandfather Long's store in Springfield, Missouri - traveled to Illinois to marry and immediately returned to Missouri. Samuel M.'s father's name was George W. Fisher born "somewhere" in Kentucky 1807-1808. He was a Methodist minister. I cannot imagine that Samuel was an only child in that day and age! Chris Fisher Thiessen --- I have a question, do you know where in Illinois your Fisher's were at? Lena
Mary, You may have something there!!!! Chris Fisher Thiessen Chris, Maybe you are on the wrong list and need to check out rootsweb's UFO-Roots mailing list lol http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Miscellaneous/UFO-ROOTS.html I figure these missing fishers have to either be somewhere in the vicinity of the constellation of Pisces or perhaps Aquarius so I narrowed it down for you a little :-) Good luck Mary Novak Kocak > Jackie, > I don't have any Fishers in Ohio that I know of. My husband and I had a hard time deciding on a name for him. We had narrowed it down to few by the time he was born but still had no name. On my 3rd day in the hospital we finally agreed on Kolton Andrew. Kolton because we liked the name and Andrews was my mother-in-laws maiden name. > Even after naming him I still wasn't really happy with the name, I had really wanted to come up with something that reflected family history. All our Children have names that begin with K and I couldn't come up with anything. The only K name I have in my direct line is KRAMM and I certainly wasn't going to name my son that! I also wasn't happy because the name Kolton means Coal town and it just made no sense to me to name him this. > When my son was less than a year old I finally had one of my brickwalls come tumbling down. I found that my gg-grandfather had established a coal town in Illinois that bears his name. His father's name was Andrew. Now my sons name makes perfect sense and I am glad we chose it. > > Mary > the funny thing is no one calls him Kolton anyway, we could have named him anything, he is called Pee Wee because when he had no name in the hospital my then 2 year old started calling him that and even the nurses started using it. Someday he will probably be 6'5 and 250+ pounds like his father and people will still be calling him pee wee :-) > > > > > ==== FISHER Mailing List ==== > ----------------- > Need to post long-term query? > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.fisher > or choose from many other options at > http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/f/i/FISHER/ > ----------------- > >
