She was apparently born Anna Emma Fisher or Emma Anna Fisher in Illinois in 1873. Her mother's name may be Phoebe (Phebe). I currently have no record of her before she married my great-grandfather, John Hughes in Minneapolis, KS in Sept 1898. When she married John, she was apparently a widow or divorcee with a daughter, Etta Josie Clark. From this, I assume she was married to a man name Clark (however, there is a possibility that she had Etta Josie out of wedlock and invented the first husband). According to the 1900 and 1910 censuses, her father was from Ohio and her mother was from Wisconsin. She and John lived in the Whitman community, Sumner county, KS from the time of their marriage to around 1915 or so. At that time, they split up and Emma eventually settled in Enid, Garfield Co, Oklahoma where she died in 1948. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please contact me. Thanks, Michele

It is suspected that the 3 were brothers or cousins who came from Pompey, NY, near Syracuse. Most of this research was done from LDS microfilm by Harvey D. "Don" Gilzean of Lompoc, CA. Joel was my g-g-g-g-grandfather. Several years ago someone turned up an old family bible for the Joel/Charlotte family, but there was no clue from where they came. Don suspects the Dedham, MA, area. My grandfather Joe Fisher, Sr., said that the Fishers were Dutch, but he was not serious about genealogy. I have found nothing in Dutch related sources about them. The 1890's Fisher genealogy by Phillip A. Fisher, available in some libraries, has a passing reference, but nothing definite, so where any of them came from is still a mystery. Several others have worked on this problem for over 10 years. Would also appreciate any additional info.
