    1. [FISHER] William Fisher Alabama
    2. TM
    3. Hi, I am new to the list and would like to share my family, or get info on my Fisher family. My grandfather William Lee Fisher was born July 14 1913 in Florence Alabama. He lived in AL most of his life. His father was William and mother Callie/Carrie Price. Apparently, William Sr. had died( i don't have dates)and Callie re-married. She married someone with the last name "NEELEY".My grandfather took on his step-dad's last name. What I am trying to find out is when William Sr. had died and when and who the "Neeley" was that Callie married. I think I found William Fisher Sr., Carrie P. and William L. on the 1920 census for Lauderdale co. St Florian district. It reads: FISHER, William age 54 white, Head of household b. TN, father b. TN, mother b. Arkansas. ------, Carrie P. age 47 white, wife b. MS mother and father b. in the US. ------, William L age 6 white, son b. AL I really can't read the occupation, but it looks like 'Farm Laborer' for both Carrie and William. I am just finding out that we are really Fishers and not 'Neeley'. I had heard rumors through the years that my grandfather went by the name 'Fisher', but i didn't think anything of it until i started doing research. It was confirmed by my great aunt that lives in Sheffield AL. She was best friends with my grandmother and she had told her that "Lee"(my grandfather) was born a Fisher and took on his step-dad's name when his mom re-married. She is in her 80s now and cannot recall what 'Neeley's' first name was and didn't know when William Fisher Sr. died. I am sorry this is so long, but i do not have any info on my Fisher line and would like to find out what line I came from. If anyone has heard of this family i would appreciate any info you can give me. Unfortunatley, there are so many William Fishers out there that i don't have enough info to sort out which is the right one. All of my grandfather's documents have the name NEELEY on them. I will send off for his birth certificate now that i know his correct last name( i sent off for Neeley, 7 times in vain!). If anyone can help, i would appreciate it! Thanks for listening! Again, i apologize for the long explanation. ===== Teresa Chicago IL Researching surnames:Crosslin,East,Fisher,Harris,Neeley,Price __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I find your Ware name interesting though as some of my Fishers intermarried with some Wares in Dedham, Mass. around the Revolution and earlier. Do you know much about your Ware ancestors?

My dad had said that my great grandfather was blind(i don't know when he went blind.)We do not know alot about our line, because my grandfather never really talked about his family. The only thing my dad said was that his grandfather (William Sr.) was blinded and that he was not a very nice man he verbally and possibly physically abused his wife and son(my grandfather). They lived in Lauderdale co. AL My grandfather according to his marriage, death and SS application, was born July 20 1913. Father listed as William and Mother listed as Callie Price.I am not sure but Callie could be short for Caroline? So maybe Carrie? I found a family on the 1920 census for Lauderdale co. Saint Florian district in AL Fisher, William white, head , age 54 -----Carrie P wife age 47 -----William L son age 6 I am wondering if this could be my connection. It fits well with my grandfather's age at the time. William Sr. according to the census, was born in TN, Carrie was born in MS and William L. was born in Alabama. Does anyone have any info on this family? If anyone has any info on this Fisher family, i am very interested in finding out more information! Like i said before, my grandfather was a big mystery, he hardly talked about his side of the family. ALso, I don't know when this happened, but my grandfather changed his last name from Fisher to "Neeley" sometime before 1937, when he married my grandmother. We know that he was in prison as a young man, but we do not know what for, or what prison!I am guessing the change in last name came as soon as he was out of prison, maybe he killed someone or did some heinous crime that he was ashamed of and changed his identity. The blindness msg really caught my eye! There has to be a connection somewhere, its just too much of a conicidence! Please e-mail me! I have been searching for at least 7 years with this. Thanks Teresa digginitya@yahoo.com

    1. Re: [FISHER] George Washington Fisher
    2. I am researching George Washington Fisher, b. February 15, 1800. Don't know exactly who his parents were, nor where he was born. He married Sarah Mariam Spikes in Copiah County, MS, on July 04, 1826. Their children were: 1) Joshua Fisher, b. March 25, 1827 2) Elias Fisher, b. March 03, 1829 3) Mary Ann Fisher, b. October 21, 1830 4) William Fisher, b. January 27, 1833 5) Sarah Ann Fisher, b. August 03, 1836 6) Grisham Hadley Fisher, b. October 09, 1837 7) Elizabeth Fisher, b. August 05, 1839 8) Matilda Fisher, b. August 14, 1843, in LA 9) Mary June Fisher, b. March 16, 1844, in LA 10) George Washington Fisher, Jr., b. August 18, 1845, in LA I don't know where Joshua nor Elias were born. I believe the middle children were born in Mississippi, maybe Copiah County. My husband is descended from Elias, and I am in contact with descendants of Sarah Ann and George W., Jr., but still cannot positively carry the line back past George Washington Fisher. I have a book about one G. W. Fisher who lived in MS in Claiborne County and in Texas, but he is definitely not our ancestor. I also have a book on order about a Fisher family, within which is a George Washington Fisher, son of William Fisher, in TN, but he doesn't look hopeful either -- the dates just do not match, plus that G.W.F. died young and unmarried. There are other Georges mentioned in the book, however. Is there anyone out there who can shed any light whatsoever on this family??? Or is anyone else researching a George Washington Fisher from the early 1800s? I would like to compare notes, if only to be able to rule out the G.W.F.s (and there were a number of them!) who were not ours! Sue Fisher
