Surnames: FISHER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YVW.2ACEB/1429.1436.1440 Message Board Post: Time has moved along. Allan can you get back to me with more detail on the parentage of your James. He should be findable in the 1901 census and I have developed much better information on Wigan relations. In fact I have a list of all Fishers in Wigan in 1901 grouped by family and have found one family with a Mary born 1893 and a James born 1885. FreeBMD is now up to 40+ million records so the odds of finding someone are pretty good. There are about 105 million records total, so that is about 40% chance. You will only make progress if you get the marriage certificate of Mary Ann and John Harmsworth; unfortunately it would appear that they married in about 1915-1918 which is not being trnacribed by FreeBMD until the records are 100 years old. You'll have to search the fiche for them. It would probably take about 30 minutes. Order the certificate and have a look at the parents. We can easily go from there.

I have all this information; my cousin is the individual in the news article. I belong to the Eaton County Genealogical Society but am not aware of the family tree on file there. I have a lot of loose ends in my Fisher family and am trying to find descendents of Japhet's (Japheth's) siblings. I don't have a James, though, unless he attaches to the line through early Massachusetts ancestors.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YVW.2ACEB/1092.1106 Message Board Post: Hi, While researching James E. Fisher in Eaton Cty, Mi, I ran across an article from the Detroit News dated Monday, May 25, 1987 entitled "Michigan Pioneer found life tough, but his efforts paid off" by Eric Freedman of the News Lansing Bureau. Excepts from article.....Fisher, a Vermont-born descendant of an old New England family, arrived in Michigan in 1836 from New York State, where he had worked on the docks in New York City and along the Erie Canal........He spent his first winter in the territory timbering in Allegan County, where he helped build a mill. In summer of 1837, he began to develop his 80-acre farm in Eaton County by raising corn and potatoes. The following year, he married another Vermont transplant, Maria Williams, who lived in neighboring Chester Township. Their gg grandson, Mark S. Stornant of Lansing, has researched the family's lineage to gualify for a Sesquicentennial Pioneer certificate from the library of Michigan and Michigan Genealogical Counc! il.... I see I made a note that if I could connect to this family there is a tree going back to the 1400's in the Eaton County Genealogy records. Hopes this helps.
