    3. I'll share my response with the list, because it is kind of unbelievable :) We knew our ancestor came to the US during the Revolutionary War as a Hessian Soldier. The HETRINA, a listing of the Hessian soldiers, had three "Fischer"s, Henrich, Phillip, and Ludwig. These three were likely brothers or cousins. Each of their regiments were listed as well as their birthdates and hometowns. Our Fischers were from a town in Germany called Oberelsungen. Now for many years, my mom (the true researcher of all of this) knew the town name Oberelsungen, but couldn't find it on a map. Nor did our German friends know where it was. Enter the internet: mapquest found it! Subsequent searches on the internet found Fischers still living in Oberelsungen. We contacted them via snail mail from addresses in phone books and they graciously looked up some church records. The individual I was in contact with was my ninth cousin. Oberelsungen is still a small town, so for us, this was not that difficult. If the area your family is from is large, then it will likely be much more difficult. :/ We hope to go to Oberelsungen some day to complete the research, but even finding this was a dream :) http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/WVPENDLE/1998-02/0887315716 That page might be your line ;) Susan Doug wrote: > Susan - How did you locate your Fishers in Germany. 3. Susan - How did you locate your Fishers in Germany. It doesn't look like my line is related to yours, but it also originated in Germany with the first immigrant to what was then the British Colonies in America being a George Fisher b. abt 1731, d. 1797 in Maryland. This line came from Deinsdorf, Bayern. I'd love to locate relatives there, but haven't a clue how to go about it. 3. I have a copy of "The Jacob Fisher Family", both volumes. Yes, I am from the Solomon line. I will gladly do lookups for anyone who is descended from Solomon or his ancestors. The first volume says 1727-1958; the second volume is 1959-1979. The direct line males shown on "the tree" in the first volume are: Jacob, d. 1748; Herman, Sr. 1696-1760; George, Sr. 1739-1791; George, Jr., 1768-1830. "This page has the Ludwig Fischer/Lewis Fisher line and also makes mention of Solomon Fisher (at some point, Solomon's daughter Anne Fisher married a descendent of Lewis, Daniel Fisher)." NOTE: I have Julia Anne Fisher, daughter of Solomon, on my database, b. March 11, 1845, married D. Fisher. She is my 3rd great grandaunt! Perhaps these names will provide a starting point of where to go. There is extensive information online done by other of Lewis's descendants. I only track the direct family line in most cases. If you do discover you are related to Lewis, let me know, as i have four more generations information that hasn't made it on my webpage yet. I located a ninth cousin still living in the village Lewis came from in Germany! Cheers, Susan Jan Robison wrote: > Hi, everyone, > > I'm new to the list, but not new to research. 3. There were two lines of Fishers in Cabarrus Co. at that time. One line descends from Solomon Fisher, which I have little information on, and another line descends from Ludwig Fischer (became Lewis Fisher once in the states). These lines are completely unrelated. I do not show a "Lynn" in my Fishers (the Lewis line), but from knowing the area, I am sure you descend one of these two lines. See www.susanfisher.net/Genealogy This page has the Ludwig Fischer/Lewis Fisher line and also makes mention of Solomon Fisher (at some point, Solomon's daughter Anne Fisher married a descendent of Lewis, Daniel Fisher). Perhaps these names will provide a starting point of where to go. There is extensive information online done by other of Lewis's descendants. I only track the direct family line in most cases. Notes for Jacob Fisher: Fort Fisher Fort Fisher, Confederate earthwork fortification, built by Gen. William Whiting in 1862 to guard the port of Wilmington, N.C.; scene of one of the last large battles of the Civil War. Because Wilmington was one of the few ports open to blockade-runners, a joint land-sea expedition under Gen. Benjamin Butler and Admiral David Porter was sent against Fort Fisher in Dec., 1864; the Union forces, however, failed to take it. A second attempt, with Gen. Alfred Terry replacing Butler, captured the fort on Jan. 15, 1865. The port was closed and Wilmington fell soon afterward. Fort Fisher is now a historic site. 3. Please note that although I forwarded the message to the Fisher List, I was not the author. For some reason, the Gateway from the Message Board did not function correctly, which is why I became involved. I deliberately included the author's e-mail address in the forward, along with the URL for finding the original Message Board posting. We all generally just "reply" to whatever message is on the screen, since that is how we normally communicate on this List. However, it's important to realize that SOME of the messages are "gatewayed" to us from the corresponding surname Message Board. We receive the benefit of seeing messages posted about this surname, without needing to visit the web page. Some -- perhaps many -- of those who post messages there are NOT subscribers to this List. What we need to remember, then, is that if we want to be certain our message reaches the original poster, we must click on the link provided in the message that comes to the List. That will take us to the Message Board where the original message resides. At that point, we will be able to "reply" to the message, so that it "threads" itself into that series, and also it will be gatewayed to the List, thus coming back to us here.
