    3. Wilma - Do you know where your ancestor's settled? I have a brick wall at a Ephraim Fisher (b. ~1785) who was married to Catherine Pegg. My Fisher's were from Darke Co. Ohio. The reason your post was so interesting to me is that one of the family names is Absolom. I'm hoping that we may have a match! I'll look forward to hearing more about your Fisher's in America. 3. You know, I don't recall who it was now, but someone I was exchanging mail with recently was telling me how he was descended from 2 lines of Fishers from the same common ancestor (which was also my ancestor). The family had gotten spread out and had apparently lost track of each other, and then came back together inadvertently in the mid-west. I don't think they ever even realized they were related. :-) Then, to top it off, someone else in his lineage married into another offshoot of the same family, but that couple had remained childless or he'd have had triple-cousins. I don't think it was anyone on this list that I was discussing this with, but if it was maybe he can clarify it for us. haha Doug ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Robison" <janrobison@yahoo.com> To: <FISHER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 09, 2003 10:55 PM Subject: Re: [FISHER] Lynn A. 3. Dear Marcia, I saw your post and it caught my attention. My Fishers were also in Western PA. Mercer, Lawrence, and/or Beaver counties. They also were Scotch-Irish. I haven't been able to find the parents or sibllings of my GGGrandfather. He said he was born in Mercer Co, PA March 11 1837. I have my web site at http://www.geocities.com/sbeireis/index.html?1041978594403 if you want to see if we might have a connection. At this point in time, I am hoping he named some of his children after his siblings. Good Luck in your search. SB

    3. Connie, I have three Michael Fisher's. Born on these dates; 7-3-1767, 5-4-1786 and 10-30-1816. My direct line moved to Canada circa 1800, I do not know if more than my Michael moved. Some of his siblings may have remained and your Michael could have been named after my Michael born in 1786. Then again we could be talking about totally unrelated lines. Bear in mind that my Fisher line is a German Fischer line that changed the spelling when they immigrated in the mid 1700s. Surprisingly of those that spent time in Canada in the 1800s and then came to Michigan circa 1900 added the "c" again reverting back to the Fischer spelling. So my great grandfather and his brother used the Fischer spelling when they came to Michigan but their parents and siblings continued to use the Fisher spelling. Best wishes, Dennis Reiley reiley@usol.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Nicholson" <hspaw2@charter.net> To: "Dennis Reiley" <reiley@usol.com> Sent: Thursday, January 09, 2003 11:26 AM Subject: Re: [FISHER] Re: your fisher line > Dennis--I have a GG Grandfather by the name of Michael Fisher B. 1828 D. 2. Marcia Helton
    3. Thank you Rick and Mary for the insight into the Fisher family. I have been stumped on my line for quite a while, and cannot find anyone who links into it. My Fisher family is from Allegheny County, Pa., near Pittsburgh. I can trace a Matthew Fisher to his marriage in 1792. There are several other Fisher's there at that time, and I plan to extensively look at records generated for those men. After reading your post, Rick, I am thinking that perhaps my Fisher family was the Irish Fishers. My Allegheny county ancestors were Presbyterian and the majority of them came from Ireland. Because the Germans and Scotch-Irish didn't intermarry often, and the Scotch-Irish are known to have settled in the Western part of Pennsylvania, I am almost certain now that my Fishers were probably Irish. Thanks for your posts Marcia Helton

The info I have on Mary Katherine Rebecca (my grandmother) is from several sources and documents: Born 5 December 1901 in either Argentine, Wyandotte County, Kansas or Calhoun, Henry County, Missouri. In 1926, she married Clarence Denton. They had two children, Virgil Monroe Denton and Lorence Denton. Clarence Denton died in 1958 and Katherine subsequently remarried Henry Edward Dirk in 1963. Henry Dirk died in 1968 and Katherine lived till 1987. This is my FISHER brick wall! 1. Re: [FISHER] TWO Fisher lines?
    2. To All the Fisher Researchers: I am a Fisher genealogist and I would like to help clarify this idea about the number of Fisher Lines in America. The earliest is Robert Fisher, 1611, who arrived on the East Short of Virginia from Wales on the Elizabeth. He was still living in the time of the first Virginia census in 1625. However, other subsequent Fisher arrivals in 17th century Virginia include: John, Henry, Thomas, Edward, Samuel, William, Gabriell, Richard, Francis, Jeremy, Jonathan, Joseph, Peter, Phillip, Benjamin, Caleb, George and Paul. [cited from Filby's Master Index]. It is unlikely that these Fisher derive from a single Fisher line in England and there is simply no evidence that this is the case. Another major line of Fisher's originated from Sylekham, England and fled England because of religious persecution and settled on the Charles River near Boston. This line is well documented and did not migrate to Virginia. Another line of Early Fishers was John and Thomas Fisher who came over on the Welcome in 1682 to settle in Penn's Colony. Thomas was a son of John and married Maugery Maud. This line is also well documented and is totally different from other early Fisher immigrants. Perhaps yet another important early line is Nicholas Fischer who immigrated to Virginia from Germany and soon changed the spelling of his name to Fisher settling in Brunswick, later Lunenburg, Counties. Simply stated, we just do not know how many independent Fisher lines immigrated to America in the 17th and early 18th century but it is certain they did not derive from one or two Fisher lines elsewhere.
