Hi all, To make things very simple...I'll tell you what I always do....When hubby is watching football or some sport on tv...I get on this computer and check out sites! I was bored the other day and started to just type in" Fisher's in Huntingdon County,Pe...then other Counties. So when Somerset was typed in...That is when I found the Christian Fisher line....I do believe it said he was from either New Jersey or New York and came to Pennsylvania...Somerset County...I believe it was under a Yoder family tree. Because he married into that family...I'll go in again and try to get the URL...then I will post it...I also THINK if you check there is a Fisher Cemetery in Somerset County as well...that I WILL get the URL for and add it in my site. Let me know if you find anything and, I'll go back into these sites and get URL'S.. Bea P.S. Just type in Fisher Families ,Somerset County,Pennsylvania and see what comes up in the genealogy area.... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Winnie Nichols" <fayth@charter.net> To: <FISHER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 16, 2003 8:24 PM Subject: Re: [FISHER] Fisher from PA > Bea, I would be interested in the Fisher tree that you found around Somerset > Co., PA. Sheryl, I hope some one in this Fisher board can help both of us. Thank goodness for the boards. Seems like when someone ask about one in a certain area, they apparently come out of the walls. So here's hoping we both find some leads. My Fisher's were from Hunterdon County, NJ. I know that there were Pegg's from Hunterdon County as well. While most of my Fisher's stayed in Hunterdon County, my 4th ggrand father Tunis Fisher moved to Darrtown, Ohio with his second wife Mary Larue. I have lots of Fisher's from this line, but no Ephraim's. Rich Fisher Do you know where your ancestor's settled? I have a brick wall at a Ephraim Fisher (b. ~1785) who was married to Catherine Pegg. My Fisher's were from Darke Co. Ohio. The reason your post was so interesting to me is that one of the family names is Absolom. I'm hoping that we may have a match! I'll look forward to hearing more about your Fisher's in America. Joe, Bea, Please tell me more about your Christian Fisher and Martin Fisher. I'm trying to trace my Christian from ca. 1740 Dutchess Co., NY back to PA. The given names repeat over and over in these PA families, so I'm thinking there must be a connection somewhere. Winnie, This is my solid brick wall. The only hint we have as to JFFishers father is what his son Joe put on the death certificate and this is questionable. Under father Joe put Joseph Franklin Fisher. He did not put a Sr. so he may have misunderstood the question. Another cause for question is that JFFisher always said he was born in Mercer, PA, but his son Joe put Indianna on the death certificate. Always there is confusion in genealogy. Now JFFisher married Elizabeth Gates in 1866. Her brother Peter married a Frances Fisher in 1870. The mother of Elizabeth and Peter was Elizabeth Frank (m. Gates). Elizabeth Frank Gates had a brother, Jacob Frank who married Elizabeth Fisher in 1850. So you see my dilema. Good Luck, and I hope someone can help me connect. Sheryl
also interested in what is known about the Somerset Co., Pa FISHER's....my brick wall is a Martin FISHER b. ca 1760 purportedly born in Germany but not convinced....lived for a time in Maryland?? and settled in Somerset Co., Pa... he died in 1844 in Paint Twp., Somerset Co., Pa.....Joe
I am looking for a Fisher (not sure of first name - thought to be John) born between 1800-1807 married to Rachel Casteel - died sometime before 1850. They were in and around Fayette County and some in Preston County, WV. He is the proverbial "brick wall" I'm trying to find. My Fishers are rumored to come from PA, then Illinois, then to Arkansas. My father in law said they were German. That there was a German pow camp somewhere in Arkansas, one escaped and they came to their farm looking for him because they were German. Another family that they knew well in Arkansas that also came from Illinois and PA were the Immel's. I think the two families may have known one another for some time or maybe been related some how. The Immel line is on line. I know that William H. Fishers was born in Ill I have............... A Samuel Fisher b. Abt 1811, PA m. Ruphan Fisher abt 184 b. abt 1811 KY son William H. Fisher b. 1852 (mother was abt 41) Illinois I have not connected this line to mine as of yet, have no proof.............. and have no other children for this line. Since the list is talking about Western PA Fishers, I thought I would add mine once again. Our earliest Fisher records go back to Joseph Franklin Fisher who was born @1836-7 in Mercer County, PA. He states on census records that his parents were also born in PA. From family remembrances, his mother was "supposed to have been Irish" and there is supposed to be some Scotts blood in there, too. His father was also Joseph Franklin Fisher, he was a minister, and I assume his birth would be around 1830ish in PA. Any Help would be appreciated. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Fisher, Romine, Russell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YVW.2ACEB/3888 Message Board Post: Want to find out what happened to my great-grandfather, WILLIAM EDWARD FISHER, after he filed his homestead papers in Montana. "Homestead Application #5426, January 17, 1892, for 160 acres in Montana. Papers were filed in Helena land was in Blaine County--Southeast Quarter, Section: 25, Town: 33N, Range 20E--between the North Fork and the West Fork. William E. Fisher states that he is, "A native born citzen of the United States, that I was born in Neillsville Clark Co. Wisconsin, that I am 25 years of age." (This would have him born 1867.) His wife of that time left him taking the children with her. I believe he most likely remarried. Did he remarry in Blaine County raise another family? Did he die in that area or move on? I haven't a clue...Help would be greatly appreciated.

I have distant cousins who keep asking me "What about the PA ancestors?" and I don't have any information that my Fischers were in PA. What I do have is that Christian and Louisa Fischer show up in Nankin Township, Wayne Co. Michigan on the 1840 census with their 2 children, Hannah and George. Both children were born in Michigan. Does anyone have this family in their tree? Debbie
