    1. [FISHER] Fisher's of Jefferson co. OH
    2. Jill, My fisher's are from Jefferson Co. OH. My gtgrandmother, Ada Jane (Sanderson) Beckwith/Manning was the daughter of Richard and Emily R. (Fisher) Sanderson. Ada was born around 1872 in Wintersville, Jefferson Co. OH. I have no dates for her parents except there marriage which was in Jefferson Co OH in 1872. I found Ada living in Steubenville with her grandparents William and Sarah Sanderson and an Uncle William Sanderson. Her parents are apparently dead. Also in Steubenville are John Fisher who was bn 1800 in PA (where my Fisher's came from) , and he was living with his daughter and her family, Charles and Lizzie Hill. Charles and Lizzie have a son John. Also living in Steubenville is Elizabeth Fisher who was bn in 1801 PA living with her daughter and son in law, John and Mary Snodgrass. It does not have whether John or Elizabeth are single, married or widowed. I assume they are husband and wife are two daughters took a parent each in their old age. Also in Steubenville is a Christian Fisher who was bn 1796 in PA, and he is living with an apparently unrelated family. I am sure there are other Fisher children of John and Elizabeth, but I have not checked out any other possible Fisher's in Jefferson, Co. OH. 1. Re: [FISHER] Rose (Fisher) Frey related to Fisher Bros. of Detroit
    2. Hi, I have both Frey's and Fischer's in my tree and I am related to the Fisher Bros.. I have the following Rose Fisher's in my tree: Rosalia Fischer b. 19 Aug 1828 in Pfaffenbach, Waldulm, Achern, Baden. Her parents were Laurentius Fischer and Helen Lamm. I do not have any knowledge that she immigrated to Ohio, but It seems that all those who survived did travel to Ohio, although not all together. Laurentius and Helen Fischer had the following children, all born in Pfaffenbach. 1) Andreas b. 15 Oct 1818 (married Stephania Rummele 7 Aug 1849 St. Alphonsus RCC in Peru, Huron Co., Ohio) 2)Helena 9 b. Aug 1820 d. before 1849 in Pfaffenbach 3)Anton b. 1 Jun 1822 (married Maria Josepha Rummele 15 Fan 1849 St. Alphonsus RCC) 4)Mary Ann b. 8 May 1824 (married Philip Barman 23 Oct 1848 St. Alphonsus RCC) 5)Theckla b. 2 Sep 1836 d. before 1849 in Pfaffenbach 6)Rosalia b. 19 Aug 1828 7)Richarda b. 17 Sep 1830 d. 4 Oct 1905 in Sandusky, Ohio (married Frank Anton Fitz) 8)Johann Baptist b. 17 Jun 1834 bef. 1949 in Pfaffenbach Andreas Fischer had a son, Lawrence Fisher who had 11 children. His sons were the Fisher Bros. of Fisher Auto Body. Mary Ann is my 3rd great grandmother. The 2nd Rose in my Fisher research is the daughter of Andreas Fischer, sister of Lawrence and Aunt to the Fisher Brothers. She was born about 1865. In my records, I have her married to George Smith. I received this information from someone in Anton Fisher's line and have not verified it. She could also have married more than once. Hope one of these is your Rose. Please feel free to e-mail me directly Mich1P@aol.com. I also have some Frey's in my tree. Michelle Meyer Posner

Daniel Fisher b 1745 Pennsylvania s/o Adam Fischer married Nancy Ann Jones... He died 1817 Augusta County VA children listed are: Adam b 1788 married Elizabeth Balsely of PA Jacob Peggy b 1783 Daniel b 1784 John married Polly Long Henry married Polly Culp Dec 1 1825 Polly William b 1789 married Jane Anderson Sep 30 1817 Andrew married Polly Sorrells Absalom married Margaret Rankin Samuel Salley Nancy then married Joseph Ross and they had children: Daniel F Joseph Nancy Elizabeth (whose daughter was my husband's grandmother) Absolom F William H Betty J In all the online stuff I have found they list my Henry "Ross" Fisher b 1823 Rockingham Co Va died Oct 31 1890 Augusta County as being the son of the above Daniel and Nancy Fisher... he can't be he was born too late... but he could be the son of Henry and Polly Fisher and that is what I want to prove.. Henry and Polly could have delayed the marriage transaction (didn't stop the younguns from coming then anymore then it does now) or the dates on both my Henry's birth and or the wedding date of Henry and Polly could be wrong... I do not have the original documents to decipher...I was hoping upon hope that someone was working on the same line and had the answers....or the documents...I am believing that Polly Fisher died soon after young Henry's birth and that grandma Nancy took over the boy because Henry Sr was unable to...I have an unconnected record of another Henry Fisher marrying later on...and that could have been Henry Sr ... Have I confused you all further?... I have Henry Ross Fisher pretty much wrapped up down to the present...his daughter Catherine was my husbands' great grandmother.. It has gotten so when I meet a Fisher around here I ask them "Whose your daddy, granddaddy and great granddaddy?" has led to some lively discussions... I have a sis in law who haunts the library and brings me every obit she can find and Augusta County History with the Fisher name...but the oldest information is the hardest to obtain...My Henry married Frankey Jane (or Frances Jane) Shiflett b 1822 in Augusta Co VA d/o William Shiflett and Frances Jane Roach..the Fishers, Browns, Shiffletts/Shifletts, McCauleys, Herrons, Ross names appear constantly in this line as there was a lot of intermarriage among them... It took some real concentration to follow this, but I think I understand it. I can't shed any light on it from my own Fisher research (although I'm fascinated, because I believe my husband's Fisher line to come from Augusta County as well) ... but sometimes an objective viewpoint can help see the forest for the trees. With the little bit of info you've given us, 2 immediate scenarios spring to mind. The most obvious is that you may be mistakenly combining two different ancestral lines. This can easily happen with fairly common names like "Daniel Fisher". But let's assume they are, in fact, all directly related. The second scenario, then, would begin like this: Daniel Fisher married Nancy Jones. They had 2 sons - Daniel Jr. and Henry. Henry married Polly Culp and they had a son - Henry Jr. Now, let's say that when Henry Sr. died, his wife Polly re-married a man with the surname Ross. And that Mr. Ross adopted Polly's son Henry Jr. Henry Jr. would then be Henry Fisher Ross. All of this fits with your data...EXCEPT the fact that you say that Henry Fisher (Ross)'s father was named Daniel, and his mother was Nancy Jones. But - there is where I think you're confusing the 2 Henry Fishers. Or the sources you're citing have confused them. This happens all the time. There's yet a 3rd scenario ... that the dates you have are wrong and that your Henry Fisher (Ross) is indeed the son of Daniel Sr. and Nancy Jones and that it was Nancy who re-married a man named Ross after Daniel Sr. died. This seems to make the most immediate sense, unless Nancy was very old when her first husband died. Let me say this: In researching my husband's ancestry, I have so far IRREFUTABLY proven two different published genealogical histories WRONG. One author has acknowledged her mistake, one has not. To be specific, so that you will see your "hunches" may ultimately prove to be more correct than published data, IN BOTH MY CASES A CHILD WAS ATTRIBUTED TO THE WRONG SET OF PARENTS. The information and dates gleaned by those two authors led them to make obvious but incorrect suppositions. And that's the bottom line. No supposition is valid until it is proven. And, sometimes, re-proven. Try approaching your research with the concept that names or dates you have been given are not accurate. Or, again, that you are intermingling two different Fisher lines. Best of luck to you, and let me know if I can be of any help. India van Voorhees Penney

    3. I have been working since 1976 to flesh out my Husbands' line... I am at a stand still due to lack of evidence that will support my theory... My husband is a lineal descedant of one Henry (Ross) Fisher... the Ross coming from a step father... now here is the rub...everywhere I find Henry's father listed as Daniel Fisher and mother as Nancy Jones ... but this cannot be as Daniel died in 1817 and Henry was not born until 1823... but Daniel did have a son Henry who married a Polly Culp... at sometime after Daniel died...his son Daniel JR took over the homeplace forcing mother Nancy and INFANT Henry out... now this cannot be the same Henry who married Polly... could this be that Henry's son and the that of Polly and because of perhaps Polly's early demise ,that grandmother Nancy took over the raising of her grandson?... when young Henry wed...he wed as a Ross ...the name of the man his mother/grandmother married... so you see my confusion... just want to establish a clear line and wonder if anyone can shed a light on this for me... this line is in Augusta County VA and Fishersville was named for Daniel...
