    1. [FISHER] Iva May Fisher, Fischer
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Fisher, Fischer, Ferguson, Dahl Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YVW.2ACEB/3923 Message Board Post: Looking for any information regarding my grandmother Iva's family. She died when my dad was young, so not much is known about her. Here's what I have: She married Patrick Gerald Ferguson. She is buried at Pinecrest Cemetery in Ottawa. I'm in the process of having the funeral home find her plot. We know that she had 7 siblings, Melba, Rita, Raymond, John, Robert, Melvin and Victor. We also know that Melba married a John Dahl and that they lived in Vancouver, BC. If any of these names seem familiar to your search, I would appreciate any information on the people. Thank you.

    1. RE: [FISHER] Fisher DNA Survey
    2. Jones, Juanenna
    3. Hi John, I know this is probably a long shot, but I have to ask. My husband is looking for his father that may or may not know that he exists. His name is John Fisher from the Beebe/Searcy area of Arkansas. His mother's name is Jackie Williams and she had him as a teenager, but will not disclose anymore information other than his father's name. I don't know his age. The only concrete thing I do know is that it is very painful for her to talk about the situation. My husband's name is Wade Williams and he was born May 23, 1977 in Searcy Arkansas. If you have any information, please e-mail me back. Thank you in advance Juanenna Williams City of Little Rock City Manager's Office (501) 371-4510 -----Original Message----- From: John Fisher [mailto:fisher@one-name.org] Sent: Wednesday, February 12, 2003 11:56 AM To: FISHER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [FISHER] Fisher DNA Survey As a recent subscriber to this list I missed the debate concerning the Fisher DNA programme last August. Allow me to clarify some of the points made: Firstly the DNA survey is just one (albeit very important) aspect of the Fisher Surname Study. By itself DNA testing cannot achieve objective of the Study, which is to identify every Fisher family that originated in medieval Britain (i.e. England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales). Therefore we are collecting every historical and genealogical record that refers to a Fisher from circa 1200 to 1901. Selective datasets throughout this period have been used to map the geographical distrubution of the surname through the ages. This enables us to pinpoint the most likely geographical origins of the oldest Fisher families. This in turn gives an indication of the likely numbers of separate Fisher families. Currently I estimate there are at least 250 such families from which approximately 250,000 Fishers living today descend. So far only 8 Fishers have been tested - it's a small start. The DNA survey will only be successful when large numbers of Fishers have been tested. I recognise that $99 is a significant investment for apparently very little immediate benefit. Understandably what most people want to learn is which Fisher family they belong to. However, most Fishers tracing their ancestry through documentary sources will get no further than say AD1750-1800. But the majority (of Fishers) will have an ancestor (called Fisher) who lived around AD1300-1400. By combining DNA, traditional genealogical research and geographical distribution analysis the Fisher Surname Study aims to fill that gap. This is not a magical solution it will take several years of hard work but this multi-disciplinary approach is the evitable future of genealogy. Be part of it! Finally, there is no value in establishing multiple Fisher DNA programs, collating all available Fisher DNA is the only sensible way forward. Clearly not every Fisher living today will be British in origin there are other groups - the most siginificant being those with Germanic (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, etc.) ancestry. These groups - with their distinct history, genealogy and genetics -warrant setting up a separate study in theri own right. 3. I've just had a break through on my dead-end person - Ephraim Fisher (b. 1785)! I just found out that while I thought he was born in Ohio, he was actually born in Maryland! Does anyone have any Maryland Fishers dating back to the 1700s that would have had sons named Ephraim and Bryce (b. circa 1775)? Any info would be appreciated! Jill Ludlam jill_ludlam@att.net

    3. Looking for information about Catherine Fisher who married John Berry, say 1774-5 in NC. Possible her family was originally from Va, since that's where her husband's family was from. since groups tended to stick together and since John Berry explored settlement areas for several families, I'm taking that leap of faith. Other info about Catherine Fisher: Married John Berry near or on end of Rev War, married in Carrabus County, NC; they had ten children, including: John Mathias, John Hamilton, Barbara, Henry, Lawson (I suspect a possible maternal surname from Va) -- can't recall all sibs names. I descend from Barbara Berry who married Solomon Huit/Hewit in Lincoln County, NC on Dec 16, 1829. The Berry family, including Catherine Fisher and likely other Fisher family members, began their northward journey toward Southern Indiana, with Barbara and Solomon settling in Knox county, IN; Catherine and John and one son, also John, in Monroe County, IN. Along the route, family members dropped out and settled into Tennessee, Kentucky and further north in Indiana. The Berry line connected to Cherokee Berry. I have no further info. don't know Catherine's parents names, date of birth, place of birth or her siblings.
