The document states that he was from Germany and living at eddyridge on Frank Larahus (sp?) Farm in Mansfield. These documents are located at the County Clerk's office in Little Valley, NY and copies run from $1 for regular copy to $5 for certified copies. Naturalization papers might be there as well. My GGGrandfather was a Henry Fisher born around that area in 1818 or before. He came to Missouri and settled around 1840 to 1850. Could they be connected. I am in some serious help in determining my ancestors parents and I am very confident that she connects to the George FISHER and Elizabeth CONRAD line of Pendleton County. I am in need of some source documentation to help me verify her lineage. Her name was Sidney FISHER. She was born around 1807 according to the 1850 Lewis County, VA/WV census. Her name is confirmed in her 1827 Lewis County marriage record to John HAWKINS, son of Jesse HAWKINS and Carrie JONES. She died sometime between 1850 and 1853 and I do not have a death record to determine the identity of her parents. Her marriage bond was signed by her husband John HAWKINS and a Jonathan HACKER. Here are some assorted clues to help in determing her lineage: 1) There is a Henry FISHER (age 23) listed in the household of John HAWKINS and Sidney Fisher HAWKINS. I am assuming this is either a much younger brother or a nephew. 2) John HAWKINS' brother, Elias HAWKINS, married Lucinda FISHER, daughter of George FISHER and Barbara BUSH. Brothers often married women who were sisters. Could Sidney and Lucinda be sisters? 3) There is a legal connection between John HAWKINS and Michael FISHER and Adam FISHER. COURT RECORDS: Lewis Co. Circuit Court Law Order Book page 26 -March 27, 1856 In this court record a complaint was filed against a James Murray. 4)Based on the 1810 Harrison County Census and the 1820 Lewis County Census, I have narrowed her father to four possible men: a) 1810 Harrison County census shows four men who have a female child under 10. They are George FISHER (1 female under 10), Mikle FISHER (4 females under 10) Charles FISHER (1 female under 10) and George FISHER (1 female under 10) This last George FISHER is living next to Paulsen BUTCHER. I am not sure which George FISHERs these are. b)Sidney would most likely have been found in the 10-16 age group in the 1820 Lewis County census. Of the four men listed in the 1810 census, three of them had females in that age group. Charles FISHER did not have any in that age group but had one female child that was 16-26. It may be more likely that he is not Sidney's father. That leaves three men: George FISHER (1 female child 10-16), Michel FISHER (3 female children 10-16), and George FISHER (1 female child 10-16) Once again there are two George FISHERs listed. Based on the John HAWKINS court transaction with Michael and Adam FISHER, and the Henry FISHER in the 1850 home of John HAWKINS and Sidney Fisher HAWKINS (Adam and Henry were sons of Michael), I am leaning toward Sidney being a daughter to Michael and Elizabeth BUTCHER. It is also possible that Sidney also had another name and she went by Sidney. Any help on this line would be greatly appreciated. My family has been Fisher for 4 generations but we are actually Fish. In Southern New England during the 1800's many with the family name of Fish changed it to Fisher, probably because of ridicule but that's just a theory, never seen anything documented on why. But...the change from Fish to Fisher is well documented in Southern New England so that's something to look for. Look for your Fisher ancestors as Fish as children or Fish for their parents name. One of the 3 Fish brothers that helped found Sandwich Mass (Fish Sandwich? I'm not making this up honestly:), I think it was Jonathon, moved in the later 1600's to New York and started the line there. That's close enough to PA to make me curious about it. I have not researched that line so I don't know if they did the Fish/Fisher thing but since you've got ancestors in PA its worth keeping on the radar I imagine for a connection to the New York Fish. If you connect to the New York Fish it gets funner with names like Preserved Fish and such:) I have a many great Aunt named Fear D. Fish! Well, just a tip as someone helped me knock down a brick wall on my direct line with this Fish/Fisher thing. If you do connect to Fish let me know I have lots of info and can share names with you of other Fish Sandwich types:) Best regards, John R.
