[Subscribers will know that this surname is also the maiden name of one of the 3 married female passengers on the 1620 "Mayflower" who is known to have descendants living today.] That season of the year encumbered by myth is upon us again and it is good to know the difference between myth and fact. In his office in the Leiden American Pilgrim Museum in Leiden, Holland, former 1627 Plimoth Plantation curator and present director of this Leiden museum, the noted Pilgrim scholar Dr. Jeremy D. Bangs has done much to set things straight. He has written two major articles debunking centuries old myths: “Thanksgiving on the Net: Roast Bull with Cranberry Sauce” and “1621: A Historian Looks Anew at Thanksgiving,” the latter dealing with publications. Both of these articles may be read on the PA Mayflower Society’s Website www.Sail1620.org “Discover History” page (Featured Articles – browse all). Among other works of Dr. Bangs posted there are the first two chapters of his forthcoming book “Pilgrims, Leiden, and the Early Years of Plymouth Plantation.” You can visit his museum at http://www.pilgrimhall.org/LeidenMuseum.htm. Of course Leiden is where the Pilgrims settled in 1609 after fleeing persecution by the Church of England and from whence they departed to begin their 1620 voyage, via England, to North America. Actual Pilgrim artifacts may be seen in the on-line collections of this nation’s oldest museum in continuous use (since 1824), Pilgrim Hall in Plymouth, MA (http://www.pilgrimhall.org). Stacy B. C. I am just a fellow researcher and was wondering what the item was. It seems to me that the listing is very clear that the item is access to online books and you can download as much of the book as you like. It is like a subscription to Ancesstory .com. Unless I did not understand your complaint I don't think they misrepresent their product. If they gave you the password for access to the online book, that is what you paid for. It does however say that your can get a full refund if you are not satisfied. I am sure it has been more than 3 days though. If you asked for a refund in 3 days and they did not respond I would complain to ebay. It is probably not worth the hassle for $5. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
File a complaint with Ebay as well....AND, you may have to take the seller to small claims court to get a refund....but try Ebay first....they will also investigate and may well be better than paypal...what a joke and ripoff! suze ---------------------------------------- > To: [email protected] > Date: Mon, 12 Nov 2007 16:04:18 -0500 > From: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [FISHER] Warning > > Hi!? It is entitled "Obituary of our mother" and I believe that it was in his scrapbook because when Lula Schmacher died, he adopted one of her small children, Audrey Daisy Schumacher. Most of the people mentioned can be located in the census. The dates of birth, death and age given do not jive but the Illinois Statewide death Index of the Illinois State Archives shows that the death date is accurate and that Lula dies in Union county. Obituary of our mother Mrs. Lula Fisher Schumacher was born Sept, 16 1881. Died Feb 12, 1919, age 38 yrs, 6 months, 12days. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband & six children. three boys & three girls, namely Dan, Mabel, Carl, Emmons, Audrey & Aline. Besides these a mother Mrs. Susan Zeigler of Holts Summit MO, a brother Sheldon Fisher of Mcrae Ark., Mrs. Minnie Dodd of Iowa, Mrs. Iva Lane of St. Louis Mo. Also many friends and acquaintances. Mrs. Schumacher professed faith in the great savior jesus Christ and united with a Baptist church in Mo. thus was ready for this departure. Great is the Sympathy felt by all for the husband and little children who have been so suddenly bereft of a loving wife and mother. The boit is signed "Carl". They came from Bavaria and moved to Wellsville, Allegany Co. NY, probably in the 1850's. He was a "provisioner" for the Erie Railroad. Their daughter, Magdalena married my great-grandfather, Christian Frey in Wellsville circa 1860. Except for a daughter Mary, the Fishers seem to have moved from Wellsville. Mary Fisher was a spinster and left her estate to several of the Frey "children". She is buried next to the Freys in the Catholic Cemetery there. I came across this information regarding William H. Fisher. I have a certificate from the Orphan's Court that reads as follows: The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Washington County, ss. At an Orphan's Court held in Washington in and for said County, on the 9th day of Decemger in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and (blank) before the Judges of the same Court. The petition of William H. Fisher respectfully showeth, that he is minor under the age of fourteen years, and has no person legally authorized to take charge of his person and estate, and therefore pray the court to appoint some suitable person for that purpos; whereupon the Court appoint George Dorsey Guardian of said minor. So as you head back watch for someone being born Fish and changing to Fisher. Most I've seen where in the mid to early 1800's. If not that look towards the Fisher line from Dedham Mass. Their found come over sometime in the 1600's if I remember right but I'll guess your a Fish:) Check out my web site at www.allaboutnhre.com/familytree If you are connected to the Fish I recently started a Fish Society at www.allaboutnhre.com/fishsandwich Your possible cousin:) John R. My GGGGgrandparents were George and Elizabeth Peck Bishop. I knew the parents of Elizabeth were Corad and Catherine Peck. I've recently learned that the father of Catherine was Israel Friend. Conrad Peck1 and Catherine Friend Peck were among some of the first settlers in Bedford County, PA. (now Fulton Co.). They had lost much, including children, to Indian attacks. They were some of the Founders of Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church in 1752. Early Church members had to have Sentries posted at the doors in case of attack. Israel Friend is my GGGGGGgrandfather. My other GGGGGGgrandfather is the Rev. Joseph Powell, 1st. Pastor of Tonoloway Church from 1765 until his death in 1804. Rev.
