This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: FISHER, FISCHER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YaW.2ACIB/988.1 Message Board Post: Actuall there are two Message Boards, one for FISHER and one for FISCHER, both gate-wayed to the respective Rootsweb mailing lists. I did see some messages on one of those lists in respect to a Hessian soldier named Ludwig FISCHER, who had served with the Hessen-Kassel Regiment Rall, which was captured at Trenton, N.J. on Christmas 1776. This Ludwig was born at Oberelsungen in 1753/54, was later exchanged, promoted from Corporal to Captain d'Armes, but in Oct. 1782 deserted from his troops. Reference: Hetrina III - Archives Marburg/Hessen. But he was not the only Hessian soldier named Fischer to remain in the U.S.A., the same source names also Fischer, Adam, 1752/53, Roehrda, deserted May 1783, Fischer, Henrich, 1753/55, Oberelsungen, des.Nov.1783, Fischer, Philipp, 1752/53, Oberelsungen, dischargd.1783, Fischer, Urban, 1737/38, Kassel, deserted May 1783. But these were not all Hessians named Fischer who rather stayed in the new World, there were many more. Some also went to Canada (Nova Scotia and Ontario), and there are just too many to mention them all. Hoping this will help some of you who have not found your roots, I would advise you to check with the Rootsweb Mailing List AMREV-HESSIANS-L@rootsweb.com particularly in the mail list archives for the name Fischer. Yours, John Helmut Merz, researching Hessian soldiers of the AmRev.
