HAROLD & JEAN FISCHER --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Harold J Fischer <haljean5@juno.com> To: FISCHER-D-request@rootsweb.com Date: Tue, 16 Sep 2003 17:41:11 -0400 Subject: Joseph Fischer of Unterkochen, Wurttemberg Message-ID: <20030916.174112.-3828981.1.haljean5@juno.com> Joseph Fischer immigrated to Brooklyn New York around 1865. He married Caroline Tochtermann of Reutinglen, Wurttemberg at the Zion German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, N.Y in 1866. Bcause of the commonality of Joseph Fischer's name I have been having trouble tracing his emmigration from Germany and immigration to Brooklyn, New York. I have successfuly followed Joseph's path in the U.S. via the U.S. Census's of 1880, 1900, and 1910. I have checked the Wurttemberg Emigration Index for Joseph's departure from Germany and found he was not listed. I have written the Lutheran Church in Unterkochen and have had little luck in indentifying his family. It has been suggested that Joseph, although married in the Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, was probably Roman Catholic. Nevertheless, I have not been able to identify him in any of the Unterkochen Church registers. It was suggested by one German researcher that Joseph may have moved from Unterkochen at a very early age and for that reason, he may not be located in the Unterkochen Church Registers. Joseph Fischer was my great grandfather. If anyone can offer a hint as to where else to check for his origins I would appreciate it. Harold
