I just did a general search for Fischer's in 1870 in Wisconsin and find most of them listed from Prussia, Wurtemberg, Bavaria, etc - but I don't think I found any Carl/Charles Fischer's from Baden. So even if I found a Carl Fischer in Windschlaeg, how would you know if they were the same? Have you searched for a birthdate in tombstone records? Or searched church records where he attended here in the U.S.? Or local library records? If you don't live close by, and the U.S. town doesn't have online records, you may have to call or write the church or library for help. Or maybe your local FHC can advise you more on how to narrow down your search rather than trying to find a Carl/Karl/Charles Fischer/Fisher somewhere in ?Germany that was born between 1851-1854. Even if you narrow it down to an area in Germany such as Prussia, you could sign up for that List, and maybe get more info that way. But my line was specifically from Windschlaeg (by Offenburg in Baden) back to a 1726 marriage of Johannes FISCHER, s/o Johannes Fischer, and Anna Maria GOSS. Then the line was from some town like "Weyhldorf" . Since "dorf" means "town", it might even be Weyhl or Weyl or Wehl or Weil or who knows?!!! I'm still working on that one! Someone once told me that Fischer is the top 6th most common surname, so all the more reason that details are extremely necessary at finding your ancestor. Searching the local library for filmed newspapers might produce a obituary that contains valuable information as to siblings, town of origin, spouse's maiden name, etc. (of course, depending on when he died). But if I was desperate enough, I'd take the time to search all options I had available! By the way, I only found one Carl Fischer born in 1851, but he died in 1869. If descendants from the Windschlaeg Fischer's went to other towns or countries, I would have no way of knowing unless someone found definite info connecting their's to this town. Carol
