Ernst was born on 14 Dec 1901 in Craam, Kreis Saamland, E. Prussia. Max lived in that area also and I know they were fairly close in age. Max and his wife, Helene or Lene ?, arrived in Cook County, IL before Sep 1928. Max sponsored Ernst, his wife, Therese, and their son, Herbert. On the ship's passenger list Ernst listed Max as "cousin". Two other surnames associated with these families are GLAUS and HAUFF.

    2. Nancy Gertner & Paul Maggitti
    3. I noted some Fishers in the Baltimore Federal Census report of 1930 that I looked at earlier this year. The pages that I copied with my husband's Maggitti ancestors includes this Fisher family on East Pratt Street: Name Relation Age Age at first marriage Place of Birth (POB) POB Father POB Mother Occupation Industry Charles Head 61 20 Maryland Maryland Maryland Foreman Foundry Ida Wife 56 20 Maryland Maryland Maryland none Helene Daughter 31 Maryland Maryland Maryland Bookeeper Dept Store [sic] Parrish, Charles Son-in-law 31 21 Maryland Maryland Maryland Electric Engeneer [sic] Marie Daughter-in-law 29 19 Maryland Maryland Maryland none Marie granddaughter 9 Maryland Maryland Maryland Charles grandson 6 Maryland Maryland Maryland The surname of the son-in-law and his family appears to be PARRISH. Information from Population Schedule for Baltimore City, Enumeration District 4-404, Sheet 6A, Block number 253 of City Ward 26. Enumerated by Myrtle O. Overton on 5 April 1930. I think there may have been other Fis(c)hers in this enumeration district, but I didn't copy all the pages. This is in neighborhood known as Highlandtown, which near Patterson Park and walking distance to Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in Baltimore (3600 Claremont St, Baltimore, MD 21224). Many of the residents in this enumeration district had Italy as their place of birth, but some also had Germany and Austria. 2. Bill Clody
    3. Remember censuses of this period all of the writing was done by the enumerator. Unless he specifically said "spell it" he would list Fisher/Fischer the way he would spell it not necessarily the way the person being enumerated would have spelled it. Your supporting clues are all very strong and while they are not dead proof that you have the right person neither would be having the name spelled correctly. Some of this you have to trust your instincts. I have a mystery man in my maternal family tree that I could spend all of my time on but until such time as all of the rest of it is solid, I am not going to fret over him. He used an alias during the civil war and had to do all kinds of affidavits to eventually get his military pension. The big thing is that aliases were fairly common at the time of the civil war especially with enlistees who might be underage. They wanted to serve, the army wanted warm bodies and if you used an alias they couldn't find your folks to prove that you were underage. My great-grandfather was Joseph S Fischer. He lived most of his life in the Baltimore/Annapolis area. Listed at the end of this message is the information that I have on him. I also found the census record (1880) that you reference - however the name was spelled Fisher (and yes it lists Veromona). Even though the name is spelled Fisher rather than Fischer, I think the census record references my great-grandfather because: - Joseph's birth year and middle initial are accurate. - his mother's name is Susan. - the baptism record for his son references the godfather for the child as Bernard (I thought this was perhaps a brother that was not identified in Joseph's obituary). - Teresa Newell, of Millersville and Miss Selicia Fischer of Baltimore were listed as two of Joseph's sisters (in his obituary). The 1880 census record shows a Theresia and a Cecilia as Joseph's sister (a fairly close match given that these are census records). I have only recently began documenting my family tree.
