Or, are you only interested in finding relatives after Martin immigrated? Carol

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YaW.2ACIB/920.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Echo, Have you found your Fischer on census records in Wisconsin? I just did a general search for Fischer's in 1870 in Wisconsin and find most of them listed from Prussia, Wurtemberg, Bavaria, etc - but I don't think I found any Carl/Charles Fischer's from Baden. So even if I found a Carl Fischer in Windschlaeg, how would you know if they were the same? Have you searched for a birthdate in tombstone records? Or searched church records where he attended here in the U.S.? Or local library records? If you don't live close by, and the U.S. town doesn't have online records, you may have to call or write the church or library for help. Or maybe your local FHC can advise you more on how to narrow down your search rather than trying to find a Carl/Karl/Charles Fischer/Fisher somewhere in ?Germany that was born between 1851-1854. Even if you narrow it down to an area in Germany such as Prussia, you could sign up for that List, and maybe get more info that way. But my line was specifically from Windschlaeg (by Offenburg in Baden) back to a 1726 marriage of Johannes FISCHER, s/o Johannes Fischer, and Anna Maria GOSS. Then the line was from some town like "Weyhldorf" . Since "dorf" means "town", it might even be Weyhl or Weyl or Wehl or Weil or who knows?!!! I'm still working on that one! Someone once told me that Fischer is the top 6th most common surname, so all the more reason that details are extremely necessary at finding your ancestor. Searching the local library for filmed newspapers might produce a obituary that contains valuable information as to siblings, town of origin, spouse's maiden name, etc. (of course, depending on when he died). But if I was desperate enough, I'd take the time to search all options I had available! By the way, I only found one Carl Fischer born in 1851, but he died in 1869. If descendants from the Windschlaeg Fischer's went to other towns or countries, I would have no way of knowing unless someone found definite info connecting their's to this town. Carol

At age 21 he was working in Wisconsin, but I cannot find ship records for him. He changed the spelling of his name to Carl Fisher possibly upon coming to the U.S. He married in the states in 1878. His father may have been a Johan / Johann Fischer and may have been a baker. I have had no luck finding him in Germany. Reports say he may have had two brothers - others say he had six sisters. I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Fischer, Schaub, Armbruster, Jokerst, Ketterer, Brohs, Seigel, Birk, Oggenfuss, Goss, Eggs Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YaW.2ACIB/920.1.1 Message Board Post: After several mispellings were found and corrected, the pieces of this puzzle started coming together. These are the factual notes as taken from old church records in Windschlaeg, Baden, Germany. Carl Anton FISCHER married Justina SCHAUB on Apr 24, 1845. It was his second marriage. His first wife, Catharina ARMBRUSTER, died after giving birth to two children, Simon and Rosalia, both who died young. Carl and Justina had four children: Catherina (who died young), Creszentia, Carolina, and Andreas. Andreas immigrated alone to Ste. Genevieve, Missouri in 1881 and married Caroline JOKERST nee KETTERER. Caroline's first husband, William JOKERST, had died after having 6 children through Caroline. Caroline went on to have three more children through Andreas - Charles, Justina (Eustenia), and Victoria (Dora). Carl Anton FISCHER was the son of Andreas FISCHER and Maria Anna BROHS. He had 12 siblings/step-siblings. His father, Andreas, had been married before to Anna Maria SEIGEL, and after Maria Anna BROHS, to Ludgardis BIRK. Andreas FISCHER was the son of Francis Anton FISCHER and Maria Magdalena OGGENFUSS (Ockenfuess). Francis Anton was the son of Joannis FISCHER and Anna Maria GOSS. Of his at least 8 siblings, there was a brother, Joannes Martin, who married Magdalena EGGS. There is a large descendant line in Windschlaeg from this son as well. The other siblings of Francis Anton and Joannes Martin either died young or left no records of marriages in Windschlaeg.
