Marcie, Also, Elnora MIGHT have also been married BEFORE she married William. There were few things a woman could do respectfully to support herself and/or her children unless she had a father, brother, or a son old enough to look after her and the rest of the family. AND men needed women to look after their children, keep house, etc. She certainly had the example of both in her Uncle Van BURTON and her stepmother Mary SKILLEN Stralheim Fink Spencer. Although Mary did not remarry after Wm. SPENCER's death. [I need to get a copy of his will and probate record; she may have been provided the use of the home and household furnishings UNTIL/UNLESS she remarried, which was the usual conditions of the day.] When I went to Pulaski County looking for Jacob FINK and Mary SKILLEN's marriage record, Mary to Wm. SPENCER, and info on my RHODES (at that time) families just as an after thought, I decided to see if the marriage to Jacob STRALHEIM was there. I could not believe my luck! I am so glad I followed that thought otherwise, I would be looking for that record in Ohio! to no avail. I haven't found Jacob STRALHEIM's body (and may never be able to) but there may never have been a tombstone, their daughter Catharine is buried with the SKILLEN's, Jacob FINK is buried with his first wife in the WOOLEY plot, but Mary is not buried with Wm. SPENCER and his other wives although I suspect she is in the same cemetery at Crooked Creek Christian Church just south of Royal Center, IN. Yes, I'm familiar with where you are. I was raised in Marshall County and was a member of Indiana Rural Youth. Went often to meetings in Madison County when I lived in Indy. Good luck and I'm holding my breath again. Dusti
