    1. [FINK] Elnora FINK
    2. Marcie, Jacob FINK (b. 7 Aug 1819) whose marriage on 10 Aug 1843 to Catharine WOOLEY (b. about 30 Oct 1821 daughter of Hugh WOOLEY and his wife Hannah) is recorded in Marion County, OH. 1850 Census, Van Buren Twp, Pulaski Co., IN Jacob Fink, 29, Value of Real Estate $600, bp: PA Catharine Fink, 27, bp: NY Mary Emily Fink, 6, bp: OH Maria Louisa Fink, 4, bp: OH Minerva Elnora Fink, 3, bp: OH Sarah Alice Fink, 1, bp: IN Another child was born: Jacob Alonzo Fink c Dec 1851 although referred to as Jacob Lorenzo Fink in the guardianship files of the heirs of Jacob Fink. Catharine WOOLEY Fink died 23 December 1851 [I'd guess from child birth] and is buried in the WOOLEY plot in the Kline Cemetery, Royal Center, Boone Township, Cass County, Indiana. Jacob FINK then married on 28 March 1852 Mary SKILLEN (b 16 Dec 1827 in OH) the widow of Jacob STRALHEIM and the daughter of Benjamin C. SKILLEN. After all, Jacob did have a house full of children, one of which was a three month old baby. The 1850 Census Record for Van Buren Township, Pulaski County, Indiana, show the Benjamin SKILLEN, Jacob STRALHEIM, and Jacob FINK on neighboring farms in the order I have listed them. I also found land records in Indiana that indicate both Benjamin SKILLEN and Jacob STRALHEIM migrated from Shelby County, Ohio. To Jacob FINK and Mary SKILLEN were born: Florence C. FINK b. c. 24 August 1853 [death record says 1854] Sarah Lavina FINK, b. c. 21 January 1855 Eli W. Fink, b. 6 Nov. 1856 Jacob FINK died 4 May 1856 [two days after consulting two doctors in Logansport, Indiana, regarding himself and the children as reflected by receipts in the Probate Record of Jacob FINK, who died intestate]. It was the receipt in the Probate Record for Jacob's tombstone that gave me Jacob's birth and death dates [as well as Catharine's death date which was written in pencil on the back of the receipt and too light to Xerox] with the instructions to deliver the tombstone to Logansport. Jacob is buried in the WOOLEY plot with Catharine; and Mary was pregnant with Eli. According to the Guardianship Records in Pulaski County, Indiana, the FINK children from the marriage with Catharine were either indentured or apprenticed. Elnora might have had it a bit easier than her siblings as she was indentured to Van BURTON of Pulaski County. Van's wife Abigail was a sister of Catharine's. The reference to Elnora in the report to the Court in May 1860 by the children's guardian [William S. SPENCER] is the only one that DOES NOT say how old she is nor the age she is to be freed of the indenture. William SPENCER was a Farmer (rather wealthy in land and personal property -- according to the Census Records) in Boone Township, Cass County, Indiana. I had come across his name many times before in estate records of various relatives of mine; he managed to get himself appointed to be Administrator of the Estates of men like Jacob FINK who died intestate. The Final Accounting always read the same. After the listing of the personal property of the deceased which included, i.e., the chickens, two milk cows, one hog, one bedstead, 4 comforters, one table and five chairs, dishes, pans, chamber pot, laundry tub, etc., "the widow waives her right to the personal property of the deceased in order to pay my administration fees of the Estate of . . ." As you can see, everything she needed to survive was taken and she "did not have a pot to . . . in". The Widow FINK had had dealings with Mr. SPENCER before with regard to Jacob STRALHEIM's estate. However, Mr. SPENCER did not have as free a hand in that matter; he was one of five men appointed as administrator AND one of the other four was Mary's father. Mary was a little older, and I'm sure had observed Mr. SPENCER's dealings. On 3 February 1858, the Widow FINK married William S. SPENCER; I believe to preserve her children's inheritance. I don't believe (although, I can't recall for certain) that Elnora FINK married in Cass County, Indiana. You might check the marriage records for Pulaski County. If you don't find her there, try White County; that area of Pulaski County is close enough to White. Oh yes, Florence FINK is my great-grandmother. It was thru the Funeral Home Extracts of Cass County that I discovered her parentage and Mary SKILLEN's marriages. BTW, where are you in Indiana? Dusti (misplaced Hoosier in Boston Mass)
