    3. Thank you for the suggestion. It is my understanding they were Jewish. Detroit hosted a fairly large Jewish community around the turn of the century and was a common destination for peoples of Germany and Eastern Europe. 1. [FINK] My Fink Line
    2. John McDonald
    3. Here once again is what I know about my Fink line (and it is very little). Jacob Fink, b. about 1829 in Bavaria or Wurtemmberg. Married (1). (Epher) ? and (2). Genevieve Esea. Epher (?) and Genevieve may be one and the same as they are the same age - born about 1832. Genevieve was born in Switzerland. Jacob and wife or wives had five children: 1.) Sophia Fink, b. 1854 in Ohio 2.) Frank Fink, b. about 1856 in Michigan or Ohio 3.) Clara Fink, b. 14 February 1859 at Joliet, Illinois, d. 8 July 1922 in Davenport, Iowa. She married John McDonald (1845-1930) 1883 in Davenport. 4.) Jacob Fink, b. 1865 in Illinois 5.) Genevieve "Jennie" Fink, b. April 1870 in Rock Island, Illinois. The family appears to have moved around - Ohio, Michigan, Illinois. They were in Joliet, Illinois in 1860 and in Rock Island, Illinois in 1870. In 1880, Genevieve, Frank, Jacob Jr., and Jennie were living in Davenport, Iowa - Genevieve listed as divorced. I've completely lost Jacob after 1870. Jacob was a stonecutter and may have fought in the Civil War. One of the daughters married a Zorn and was living in Los Angeles in 1922. That's all I've known for a LONG time! --John McDonald Grass Valley, California jmcd@oro.net

    3. I see we have got seven new subscribers in the last month. Everyone should post their line so the new people can see what you have. Also the new people should post too. Here's what I have. It's a bit disjointed and it all hinges on family lore, news articles, obits and historical writings. It's my step-children's family and I am trying to see what I can find for them. 1st Generation: My stepchildren Albert Fink (Living) Laili Fink (Living) Glory Fink (Living) | | 2nd Generation Albert Fink (Living) m Lynda Carol Phillips Rudolph Fink m Susan | | 3rd Generation Rudolph Fink B 1/24/1905 Nome AK d. 8/21/1980, Biloxi MS m. Helen Bamber Hickam 1937 Eleanor Fink m ? | | 4th Generation Albert Fink Lawyer to Al Capone and involved in dog sled racing in Alaska. Picture at http://www.gambino.com/bio/caponepics.htm | | 5th Generation Unknown Fink | | 6th Generation Rudolph Fink Albert Fink, 1827-1897, Railway construction engineer, railroad executive, and architect. Heinrich Fink (returned to Germany) (according to family lore there were 8 other brothers) This one has to be in the line somewhere, but the Fink family will not claim him. Why are informers or strike-breakers called finks? Fink was an eponym for one Albert Fink, who as a supervisor of detectives for several different railroads, oversaw a team of operatives who were paid to go undercover and spy and inform on railway workers. These operatives were dubbed finks.
