    1. [FIELDS-L] Richard, Thomas; 1730-1800, VA>NC
    2. Descendants of Richard Fields Generation No. 1 1. RICHARD1 FIELDS was born Abt. 1730 in Amherst County, Virginia, and died Bef. 1764 in Albemarle County, Virginia. He married ELIZABETH MURRELL October 1757 in Amherst County, Virginia, daughter of THOMAS MURRELL and ELIZABETH OLIVER. Children of RICHARD FIELDS and ELIZABETH MURRELL are: i. THOMAS2 FIELDS, b. Bet. 1750 and 1755, Albemarle County, Virginia; d. Aft. 10 January 1807, Wilkes County, North Carolina; m. ELIZABETH COFFEY, Bef. 1773, Albemarle County, Virginia. Notes for THOMAS FIELDS: In 1799, Wilkes County, North Carolina, Thomas Fields was appointed, with others, to a committee formed to purchase public lands. On this land the Wilkes County courthouse, Wilkesboro, North Carolina was built. Thomas was active in the Yadkin Grove church, holding the office of clerk and later that of deacon. Thomas left a will dated 10 January 1807 and probated February term 1807 which named his wife Betty and children, William Fields, Jane Compton, Reuben Fields, Betsy Pendley, Winnifred Humphrey, Polly Humphrey, and Sally Pendley. Executors were wife Betty Fields, sons William Fields and Reuben Fields and trusty friend Eli Coffey. Witnesses were William Lenoir, Lewis Coffey, and Jonathan Boone. The trusty friend Eli Coffey was Betty's nephew. Witness Lewis Coffey was also a relative of Betty. Jonathan Boone was a brother of Daniel Boone. He and another brother, Jesse Boone were members of the Yadkin Grove Baptist Church, as were several members of the Fields and Coffey families. Daniel Boone himself had lived in Wilkes County, North Carolina but had already moved away, moving first into Kentucky and later to Missouri. Notes for ELIZABETH COFFEY: When John Coffey's will was appraised some nineteen years after his death, Elizabeth and her "lawfull husband Thom. Fields" were named in the report of the appraisers. ii. ELIZABETH FIELDS, b. 12 March 1755, Albemarle County, Virginia; d. 24 May 1824, Buncombe County, North Carolina; m. (1) BRADLEY BERRY, 29 December 1774, Albemarle County, Virginia; m. (2) RICE COFFEY, 1785. Notes for ELIZABETH FIELDS: Elizabeth Fields married Bradley Berry by whom she became mother to Franklin Berry about 1775. Bradley Berry died of Rheumatic Fever while in the Revolutionary War. Elizabeth moved with her son, Franklin to Wilkes County, North Carolina. Apparently while living there she had a relationship with Rice Coffey which produced two more offspring. Elizabeth gave these two children the name Coffey and her married name. William Coffey Berry was born about 1796 and Mary Coffey Berry was born in 1789. Elizabeth later moved with her children to Buncombe County, North Carolina. Rice Coffey married Sarah Bradford in 1790 and moved to Tennessee. iii. SARAH FIELDS, b. Abt. 1757, Albemarle County, Virginia; d. Bet. 1805 and 1845, Wilkes County, North Carolina; m. THOMAS COFFEY, Abt. 1778, Albemarle Co., VA. Notes for SARAH FIELDS: She was called Sally. iv. JOEL FIELDS, b. Abt. 1760; d. Abt. 1781. Randall Fields

    1. [FIELDS-L] Pearson (Pierce) FIELDS, Georgia
    2. Carole Johnson
    3. Hello everyone, I am reposting my Pearson FIELDS in hopes that somewhere, somehow I can make a connection. The first record I have of Pearson is his marriage to Martha Jane COLLINS in 1853 in what is now Pickens County, Georgia. I have not found him in any census. He and Martha Jane had a least three children: Nathaniel Jackson born Feb. 1854, first married to Mary Frances CRAIG then Marthe, and died 1939; Martha L. born May 1855, married to J.L. HARMON and died July 1924; and George. Pearson served in the CSA in Co. L, 36 Regiment of Ga. Volunteers. He enlisted in May of 1862, took fever in Tenn. in July 1862, sent home and died in September 1862. Martha Jane never remarried. She drew a widow's pension until at least 1906 and is not found in the 1910 GA census. She was listed in the 1900 census as living with her daughter's family in the Salacoa district of Georgia (very near Pickens, Co. GA.) According to census records and death certificates for Nathaniel and Martha, Pearson was born in Georgia and Martha Jane COLLINS FIELDS in North Carolina. I do not know where Pearson and/or Martha Jane are buried. Nathaniel was buried at Pleasant Arbor Cemetary in Salacoa and Martha L. was buried nearby at Goshen Cemetary. There are a number of FIELDS in Pickens and Cherokee Counties in Georgia, but I have been unable to make a connection. I would be more than happy to share any and all information I have. Thank you and have a wonderful new year! Carole Johnson [email protected]

    1. [FIELDS-L] FIELDS, Ebenezer (born circa 1770-75)
    2. Elizabeth E. Freeman
    3. Hello All: I am beginning the new year by reposting my information with the hopes there are new researchers who might recognize my 'old Ebenezer Fields'. I have communicated the last 18 months with many of you and feel as though we are 'next door neighbors'. The first record found of Ebenezer Fields is the 1797 KY tax record on which he appears for owning a horse. He secures a marriage bond in Bourbon Co., KY in 1-1799 and on 5-20-1799 he marries Sarah Roxanne Burden in Bourbon Co., KY. They live in Nicholas Co., KY (formed out of Bourbon Co.) until circa 1816 when they go west to MO. He dies circa 1847 in MO. Sarah remarries and circa 1851 she goes west to OR. Some of the Fields children go west to OR and some stay permanently in MO. They have nine children - seven born in KY, two in MO. Some descendants believe he is of Welsh descent. Can anyone clue me in as to where Welsch immigrants may have settled in the 1700s? I have extensive information on the descendants of 'old Ebenezer Fields' which I am willing to exchange. I am endeavoring to identify his parents, siblings, date of birth, place of birth, country of origin, etc. Would love to hear from anyone who thinks we may be connected. Liz Freeman In Oklahoma!

    1. [FIELDS-L] John Clinton Fields
    2. SONNY FIELDS
    3. The earliest link I have in my ancestry is my GGGrandfather. His name was John Clinton Fields, Sr. (1784-1858) and was married to Elizabeth Mixon (1791-?). I think this was in South Carolina but not positive. We have them connected to fourteen children. One being my Great Grandfather Dewitt Fields. My given name is actually Ephraim which is also the name of my son, father, grandfather, possibly other name of my great grandfather, and the first name of one of my great great uncles. If anyone has any information on or a possible earlier link to John Clinton Fields I would certainly appreciate the help. Also, if anyone has seen the name Ephraim connected to the Fields name I am curious as to how far back my name has gone in the Fields clan. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    2. I have been corrected about the origin of the Fields Name. It did arrive in the U.S. from Britian but nationality is such a transient thing. It arrived in England with the Normans. If being in England makes it an English Name then being in the U.S. for 500 years should make it also an American name. But it is a name that has spread over much of the world. So it could be called many things. But since we are here speaking of origins then we have to call it by the place it originally came from. So, Is the name Norman? Where was the first Feld? That is the point of the discussion. As I said, I have been corrected. It is NOT, first and foremost, an English name. It did have its origins elsewhere. BTW: I once heard of a German who was named fiel coming to the United States. His descendants took the name Fields as their Americanized surname. So there may be some people surnamed Fields that had their origins in Germany. Randall Fields

    3. Crazy! Having a fire alarm at 5:30 p.m. on the coldest day of this season! I am thawing out. So you think the FIELDS history books would cover the FIELDS of KY? Hmm. If you think these would, then I would need the book titles. Knowing the name of the libraries might help the person at the Montgomery County Public Library. Thank you, FRED L.
