    1. [FIELDS-L] James Fields of South Carolina b. ?
    2. Hello list, I am new here. I have been looking for my gggrandfather James Fields from Bamberg, South Carolina area. Family lore says he married (1) Ella Kinard and (2) Mary Chassereau. I have none of this from primary source, just word of mouth. children of James and Ella: William Perry Fields m. Oscie Allen and lived in Sanford area of FLA, Charles Cornelius Fields b. Jan. 5, 1867 m. Lula Jane Ogden (this is my line) and lived in Odum, Wayne County, Georgia, Lou Fields m. Charlie Hiers and lived in Bamberg area of South Carolina, Ella Fields. The children of James and Mary are: John Fields m. Martha Carter, and an unknown daughter. As there are many, many James Fields in the South Carolina area, this is indeed difficult searching. Does anyone on the list connect to these Fields. Thanks in advance, and sorry for rambling, Laura Cooper

    3. Hi Bob, I think that you and I corresponded before. I, too, am descended from Lansford FIELDS of NC, through Obediah FIELDS and Avis BIRD (married in TN, check the IGI if you don't already have this), and through Obediah's son Lansford (wife - Nancy BRAGG). His daughter Bethiah was my great grandmother. Her marriage record in Randolph Co., IN, spells her name as Bythiah, I think. My mother said her name was Hulda Bethia, but I haven't been able to prove the first name yet. If you get any information "off list," would you please pass it on. I've been looking for information about the original Lansford FIELDS of NC for a long time. I really wish that I could go to Stokes Co., NC, to look for him, but I can't. 1. [FIELDS-L] Fields-Manes (or Manis)
    2. Here are a few FIELDS who may or may not fit with any known lines. The first one is a "blank wall". Her name is Susan "Patsy" FIELDS, b. ca 1763 in NC (one report says "Holland", but I haven't found anything to back that up), m. Seth MANIS, b. Bedford VA in February 1762. I don't have their marriage date, but their first son, Jacob, was born in 1780 in Moore Co., NC. Seth and Susan MANIS had several children who married FIELDS. I feel sure these FIELDS were related to Susan "Patsy" FIELDS-MANIS, as the tendency at the time seemed to be for cousins to marry. Seth MANIS' children who married FIELDS were: Elizabeth, b. ca 1794 NC, m. Anderson FIELDS Elizabeth's brother (Seth and Patsy's son), Jesse, had two children who married FIELDS, Clinton, b. ca 1818 TN, m. Susan FIELDS (dau. of above Elizabeth) Donnelson, b. ca 1821 TN, m. Mary FIELDS (also dau. of Elizabeth) John, also a son of Seth and Susan, was b. ca 1795 in TN, m. Celia NELSON. One of their children, Lucinda MANIS, married Anderson FIELDS, Jr., also a son of Elizabeth (above). This is a little mixed up--I need to find the parents of Susan "Patsy" FIELDS. Logic would indicate that Susan and Anderson FIELDS were brother and sister, and at one time Anderson FIELDS and his family lived in Kentucky, some of their children were born there, and Elizabeth died there. (County unknown.) I hope someone on the FIELDS-L can make a link with some of these people.

This happens a lot, and I just forget it-and delete- but I always wish the information were complete. I'm happy at your success! Mary Kay Ward-Richmond, VA From: Jack Davis <[email protected]> <I've been searching for my gggrandfather, ? Field, who came from the Tioga Co. (Delmar or Wellsboro) for many months and my sister has been searching for many ears. Several postings to this forum also drew blanks. All we knew for sure was that ? Field married Martha Jane McEwen in Tioga Co. and that they had a son, George Washington Field, in 1840 (my ggrandfather). Last night, I was going through early newspaper transcriptions on your web site and found a Nelson Field, married Martha McEwen on Nov. 6, 1839. Finally! At last! We know his name. There are several Field families living in Delmar and Wellsboro Twp's. in the 1850 census and it seams reasonable that they are related to Nelson Field. The McEwen's are also there (Delmar). An 1830 census would probably be a great helps it would probably show where Nelson is at that time and give us a clue to his parents. Also on your web site in the History of Delmar, is John McEwen (Martha's father) and several Fields on the 1832 tax rolls. If anyone can tie Nelson Field to any of these Field families, Jack D. There was a German Sect, led by a Father Rapp, who named his settlement there, Economy. Eventually, these people removed to Indiana and named their new settlement, Economy. They subsequently went back to PA, I believe. Some of my ancestors joined this Sect in PA when they first came here from Germany in about 1810. They didn't stay with it, though, because the Sect believed in celebacy. Carolyn

    3. Hope you're feeling better, Joyce. I think I have the same thing. I've been coughing for over six weeks (among other symptoms). I've been searching for my gggrandfather, ? Field, who came from the Tioga Co. (Delmar or Wellsboro) for many months and my sister has been searching for many years. An 1830 census would probably be a great help as it would probably show where Nelson is at that time and give us a clue to his parents. Also on your web site in the History of Delmar, is John McEwen (Martha's father) and several Fields on the 1832 tax rolls. If anyone can tie Nelson Field to any of these Field families, I'd certainly be very appreciative. Thank you, Joyce, for a very helpful web site. Jack D. Davis
