    3. Jack: I read with interest your post re descendnats of William Field wherein you request information on generations 1 through 10. Sorry, I don't have any information but do have a question. In your research have you by any chance come across an Ebenezer Field(s) birthdate circa 1770-76? I have come across the Ebenezer Fields (bd3-17-1687-88) a couple of times. I will go through my papers and see if it lists any information on the generations you are searching. Liz Freeman In Oklahoma!

    3. Zella, No, most of them are in Guilford County, North Carolina, the Fields originating in Pennsylvania. We are still trying to determine where the Parsons line originated - we think Virginia. The Parsons and Fields lines did immigrate out of North Carolina but not (to my knowledge into Alabama). They mostly went to Indiana, Arkansas, Missouri, and further west. Krystine

    1. Re: [FIELDS-L] I think? this Lydia is the 2nd wife of William Armfield?
    2. Krystine Abrao
    3. Patience, The Lydia who married William Armfield (her second husband) was Lydia Julian daughter of Peter Julian and Mary Baels. She was the widow of Joseph Fields (many people believe her husband to have been a different Fields, however, we have a bible record that proves her husband was Joseph). Joseph Fields was the son of Jeremiah Fields and Elizabeth Powell. Joseph and Lydia's children were: Mary Fields who married James William Parsons, Sr (my ancestors); Jeremiah Fields who married Ann Armfield; Robert fields; Lydia Fields who married Samuel Short; Samuel Fields; David Fields and Sarah Fields who married Jesse Julian. If you or anyone else on the list would like more information on any of these people, please contact me. I have the complete line of Fields and Julians, as well as - of course - Parsons. I am the caretaker of our Parsons Family History file which includes all the information we could find on the Surnames they married into. The Parsons married into both the Fields and Julian lines several times so I have an extensive file on the Fields and Julians and I will be happy to share what I have with anyone who wants the information. All of the research is a team effort of 8 Parsons family researchers working together on our family history. If I personally cannot answer a question, I can refer you to one of the 7 others who can. Hope this helps, Krystine Abrao

David Lewis Field and Winna had the following children: Daniel b: 12-25-1823 at Claiborne Parish, La; Robert Green-b: 1828 at La; Mary Ann-b: 1829 at La; Lewis Turner-b: 10-10-1831 at La; Fielding Wolf-b: 1-19-1834; Green Cotton-b: 1-21-1838 at La; Victor-b: La; David Crockett-b: 8-3-1842 at Claiborne Parish, La (my line). Some believe a Thomas Fields in the 1800 Pendleton Co, Census is ours and we have found a record of a Thomas Fields marrying Priscilla Lewis, who was the daughter of David Lewis, but so far no documentation. I hope someone out there can help us because we have really hit a brick wall. There is a David Lewis Fields in the 1820 SC CEnsus at Spartanburg. We have found them in the 1830, 1840, Claiborne Parish, Census'. In 1850 they are in Upshur County, Texas and then moved to Erath County, Texas in abt. 1856. Thanks-April

    3. A Fields Family History - Submitted by John H. Rogers of Tampa Fl. also from Fields Findings. Family legend is that ISAAC FIELDS cam with bro WILLIAM and new wife in company of 100 others from the Lowlands of Scotland to the New World in 1742. They were Scotch-Irish. The fIELDS bros settled nr Bald Mt., NC. As told in the family they enlisted and fought for American Independence during the Revolutionary War. They Served under General GREENE, and were under BENEDICT ARNOLD at the time he was relieved from command by the Continental Congress. It appears logical, however, from times passage, that it was the second generation in America -- sons of the two brothers who fought in the Revolution. In the early 1800's MOSES FIELDS and his wife BETSY ANN, presumably were living in Charleston, SC. MOSES was probably grandson of the ISAAC who left Scotland in 1742, and came to Bald Mt., NC. From the home in Charleston, Two bros SAMUEL AND ISAAC left for the new lands opening up in the territory to the west. Some sources say bro MOSES was also with them. Court records show marriage of SAMUEL FIELDS AND MARY JOHNSTON(E) in Madison Co., Huntsville, Tn. (Marriage BK l, page 97, 11 Feb 1813). Later census records indicate both were born in SC. They settled where Fairfield Al (Jefferson Co.) now stands, but removed c 1825 settling in what is now Brookside, taking up farm lands on Five Mile Creek. Records show land grants to SAMUEL in March 1831, july 1836, Nov 1850, Feb 1851 and 6 in April 1856. Bible referred to was copied in 1926 by WILLIAM P. BRAKE, while in the possession of JOHN BRAKE, near Brookside, Al. It did not show birth dates for either SAMUEL OR MARY. Both are buried in the FIELDS cemetery, immediately adjoining the Brookside Jr. High School, Jefferson Co Al. Tombstone shows SAMUEL b 1790, d 1 Apr 1860. Will Bk A, 1856-80, Jeff Co Al, page 131 -- "Last will and testament dated 14 Aug 1848, probated 14 July 1860 - SAMUEL FIELDS. Mentions wife MARY, sons SAMUEL J., JAMES, WILLIAM and ISAAC; dau NANCY ROGERS, MARY JACKS, ELIZABETH BRAKE, LUCINDA M. AND MALINDA FIELDS; and son MOSES FIELDS". Proof of will states that SAMUEL FIELDS "departed this life on the 26th of April 1860. He left no widow and next of kin are his children" -- and same are listed as in the will, but by this time MALINDA had married MORGAN ISAACS, and LUCINDA M. had married WILLIAM BAGLEY -- all of age and residing in Jefferson Co Al. "History of Jefferson Co. and Birmingham Al." by DuBose -- "After the year 1815 which was about the time of the first settlement of white persons in Jones Valley, there were very few Indians seen here and no hostile demonstrations; nevertheless, through abundant caution, the first settlers erected a rude fort near the present site of Old Jonesboro. The first settlers, JOHN JONES, ANDREW McLAUGHLIN, SAMUEL AND ISAAC FIELDS. At that settlement MOSES FIELDS, lately deceased, was born, being the first white child born in the county. This MOSES first son of SAMUEL AND MARY. MOSES and SAMUEL FIELDS filed application for letters of administration of will of ELIZABETH ANN FIELDS in town of Elyton, Jefferson Co Al 6 Feb 1829. Who this "MOSES" was is not clear. Could hardly have been SAMUEL'S son as he would have been only 13 years old in 1829. Family legend has that it was SAMUEL'S brother b Mar 1783. There were 3 sisters: ANNA HUTCHINSON, POLLY MATTHEWS AND LETTICE SHARP. ELIZABETH'S estate amounted to $1090.20 - there was no sale in "consequence of all the distributees being of full age towit: GEORGE MATHEWS in right of wife POLLY: THOMAS S. HUTCHINSON, wife ANNA; EDWARD G. SHARP WIFE LETTICE and also ISAAC FIELDS each agreeing to divide the estate among themselves." Does not mention either SAMUEL or MOSES. Alabama newspapers in 1936 tell of a reunion of the families of SAMUEL AND ISAAC FIELDS. Attention centered on MOSES FIELDS, grandson of SAMUEL, at that point 78 years old. more continued but was not in the Martinsville, In. file. Patience

    3. Here is a letter, taken from the microfilm, from the National Archives records: J. M. Field REFERENCE PLANTER Bank of Liberty Liberty, NC "EFFICIENCY CALLS FOR CASH AND BRINGS THE BAKEN HOME" Climax, NC May 10, 1928 Department of the Interior Bureau of Pensions Attention of Mr. Winfield Scott, Commisioner Washington, D.C. My dear Mr. Scott: Answering your letter under date May 4th, will say that I am unable to fully comply with your request. However, will attempt to so inform you that you may be able to find some data for me per my request under date August l, 1928. The William Field I am particularly interested in, made a will 1805 and it is recorded in Book 3, page 31, at Asheboro, Randolph county, North Carolina. His wife named Lidia and tradition has it she was from Pennsylvania. Children per above record: Lidia, (Lidy) Louis, Jeremiah, Robert, William, Janes Stroud, Rebecca Sherwood, Tabitha Kirkman. I have no record of the said William Fields's birth, marriage or death, except: tradition has it, he met his wife (and parents) while on the way to North Carolina as they (her family) were going back to Pennsylvania. She accepted his marriage proposal and she returned to North Carolina with him; which indicates to my mind that they knew each other prior to this event. I do not know or have any idea what (was) her surname. The said William Field had four brothers per tradition. Their names were Robert, Jeremiah, and Joseph. "Tis said they came here from Maryland. My great grandfather Jeremiah made a will about 1829 as it was recorded about February 1830 in Book 6, page 41. Elinor was the wife. Children: Elswick S., Hugh, Jeremiah, William, Rebecca, Polly (which equals Masry), Nellie, Martha McDaniel, Frances Staley. "Tis said that the aforesaid Jeremiah Field died in 1829. My grandfather William Field died about 1855. I AM PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN THE FOUR FIELD BROTHERS said to have come here from Maryland. William was my great-grandfather and of course the others were my gr. gr. uncles. vOLUME 10, PAGE 841 OF THE cOLONIAL rECORDS OF nORTH cAROLINA YOU WILL FIND A PETITION FOR THE RELEASE OF HUSBANDS wILLIAM fIELD, rOBERT fIELD, jOSEPH fIELD, jEREMIAH fIELD SIGNED BY THEIR WIVES lYDE fIELD, mARY fIELD, lYDE fIELD, aNN fIELD. I do not know whether these four are the four brothers I am interested in or not. I do not know which womand was the wife of either of the said four parties. Date thereiof, October 12, 1776 is about the time of their residence in this part of North Carolina. At that time, Randolph county had not been formed from the portion of Guilford County hence said Fields were all residence of Guilford county as stated in the petition. Our county was carved out of Guilford in 1779 and named in honor of Peyton Randolph who was at that time president of the great Continental Congress at Philadelphia.* Volume 8, page 26, A[pril 14, 1769; it appears that Jeremiah Fields beat John Lea the Sheriff of Orange county while going to serve a capias against him. Page 531, Marth 11, 1771 Jeremiah Fields indicted. Page 241 September 29, 1770 Judge Henderson's letter to Govenor Tryon indicates that Fields made a speech to the Court at Hillsboro on or about the time of the riot which broke up the Court. Was this Jeremiah? Page 176, "Life of David Caldwell, D.D. "the statement is made that "Jeremiah used frequently to say in conversation that having fought twice, once for his country and once for his King, and having been whipped both times he would fight no more; but generally added that, if war were to arise again between England and America, thought he would nit fight at his age, he would be on the side of the King, because he had taken solemn oath to be faithful to him while he lived; but he would tell all his sons to fight for their country. Many others took the same course." "Tis said that William and Jeremiah were taken at Yorktown with Cornwallis but as there were so many Williams and ajeremiahs on the records am uncertain as to ones that were my ancestors but am hoping to eventually ferret them out. Anything you may have relative to these four names or just William and Jeremiah (original immigrants aforesaid) will be appreciated. Do you have any data relative to John Field a Revolutionary officer at Battle of Cowpens? He was a son of Jeremiah Fields's uncle, and from Guilford county. In advance, I thank you, J. M. Field *Note from FFF: In the letter the statement "Peyton Randolph who was at time president of the great Continental Congress at Philadelphia" reminds us of the fact that George Washington was NOT the first president of the United States. The first president was John Hanson, Maryland's representative at the Continental Congress. On November 5, 1781, Hanson was elected by the Constitutional Congress to the office of "President of the United States in Congress Assembled". He served for one year. 3. I located this document in the verticle file of the Martinsville library. Please let me know if it is of no importance to the list or if this has already been hashed over. This is from the 1985 Fields Findings. I hope copying this is not infringing on any copywrite. I have started a new Fields tree for my family and want to source everything I put on it. My other file is huge and I cannot share with anyone and anyway I am afraid to as I did not copy the sources as I got the material. What I am trying to establish is: The identity of Lydia Fields and her Fields children who married William Armfield of Kings Mountain. Where and if this Jeremiah Fields and William belong to my Fields family. It looks like they do. If my Fields go back to one of the 4 Field brothers and which one if so. Also, as I have mentioned before, my Isaac Isaiah Fields married Sarah Brown. Is this the same person as Nakey Sarah Canoe? There is an Isaac Fields who married Rebecca Brown. Some of my family believe this was Isaac Isaiah's first wife. Who was Rebecca Brown, what relationship with Sarah Brown and who is the real Isaac Fields she married? With all of that said I will copy the document, taken from the microfilm, from the National Archives records and printed in the 1985 Fields Findings in a follow-up message to keep this from getting too long. 3. It would be my guess that George Fields (brother of Chief Richard) and George Fields (son of Chief Richard) are sometimes confused by historians as are all the Richards. In a book: GENEALOGY OF 'OLD AND NEW CHEROKEE INDIAN FAMILIES', by George Morrison Bell, Sr., the birthdate of George Fields (brother of Chief Richard ) is given as 1765 in Tenn. Some historians have Chief Richard being born in South Carolina-- I believe the LDS records indicate that. We may never be able to nail down some of these dates exactly, but my family's application to relocate with other Cherokee in IT, was done in 1834, and they were in TN then. Also, the records indicate that my George and my Richard (son and grandson of the Chief) were both born in TN. The dates, however, are not positive. To further complicate matters, most of my Fields are buried in Bryan Chapel Cemetery, a few miles east and about 1 mile south of Pryor, OK. I cannot remember if my George is there or not as I can't find my list. 3. Thanks, Sherry--that helps a lot ! It has been my experience that Carselowey was a very accurate genealogist, but I was having trouble with his dates in this instance. An ancestral file in the Family History Library has Richard Fields birth year as 1762, and one of my ancestors, whose data I have always found to be accurate, wrote that Richard Fields was born in 1764, but provided no source. The dates you provided for George indicate that these sources are probably close to the mark. Do you have the name of, or directions to, the cemetery where you found the graves of George and Sarah Fields? >Hi List, > The article on George Fields, by Carselowey, is very good but I >would like to throw in something that may be in error.
