    3. Hello: Have been watching the traffic re the above. My 'old geezer' Ebenezer Field(s) (bd circa 1770-76) married Sarah Roxanne Burden who was born in NJ; some of her family came out of Burlington Co., NJ. For those of you who have access to information re the Field's out of Burlington Co., NJ, does it include anything on Ebenezer Field(s) born circa 1770-76. Any information appreciated.

    3. Elaine and All: I have been on this list for quite some time but have only seen one possible tie-in so far. But, I keep hoping. So, I'm asking the list for help, ideas, opinions...ANYTHING. My gt gt grandfather was William FIELDS, b.abt 1786 in Guilford Co., NC. He was possibly married as many as three times (based on the years between the first 3 children), but his last wife's name was Sarah. One of my Aunts thought her last name might be Aldridge, but she didn't remember when/where she heard the name. Other than his birthplace (which was on one marriage bond for a daughter) and the fact my grandmother told the family that is where they were from, I can't find anything outside of Pike Co., Ky records on him or his family. The names of his children were: Richard Lewis, Robert Thomas, Simpson, Kizzie (Keziah???), Syntha, Wm. Harrison, and Thany (Bethany???). If this were a German or Scot/Irish family, the naming pattern of the children might make it easier to trace, but I know NOTHING of Native American naming patterns. I was hoping if I tell you and the list the story that has always been in the family, someone might be able to give some direction. I've tried the rolls, but most of them are by NA names which I can't translate. Here is what Mom's family has always been told. My grandmother (Mary Elizabeth FIELDS) said her mother (Sarah Catherine UPTON) told her when she married Mary's father (Simpson FIELDS), that she was kicked out of her tribe. She said her last memory of her family was of leaving on the wagon and looking back to see everyone's back turned to them except her younger sister who was looking after them and crying. She said she never had contact with anyone in her family ever again, but was later told there was a huge explosion and many NA people were killed back in NC where her family was when she left. She didn't remember the name the place they lived, but did remembered it was in NC and close to a "large body of water." My mother and her older sister thought Sarah was Cherokee and that Simpson was Cree/Creek. They were sure Sarah was a full blood and Simpson was 1/2 (Cree/Creek and white). But, all my research comes up with is FIELDS is Cherokee. While I do know there are UPTONs on the reservation today, I have not found any UPTONs on any census or rolls back in 1846. Oh...I guess some dates would help. Simpson FIELDS was b.1838. Sarah Catherine UPTON was born b.abt 1846. Mary Elizabeth FIELDS was b.1881. They also thought Simpson came from Florida and that his dad had a plantation there. My research tells me: 1. Simpson was most likely the Cherokee. Sarah the Cree/Creek. 2. Simpson from Florida isn't true because William was b.in NC as was his first 3 children (Richard L., Robert Thomas & Simpson.) 3. Since Simpson/Sarah were being born during the period of "Trail of Tears", their families were most likely those that chose to stay. ***I base this on the fact Simpson/Sarah were married in NC and Sarah was born 1846 which was on the tail end of the Removal Period. 4. Their Florida connection may have been Sarah's family although I can find no UPTONs there either. Some questions I have are: 1. If the Cherokee intermarried with the whites and nobody was kicked out of their tribe then, would the Cherokee kick one out for marrying a Cree/Creek? Would the Cree/Creek have kicked one out for marrying a Cherokee? 2. Since there are UPTONs on the reservation today, where were the UPTONs during 1830-1850? 3. Where could they have been in NC that would have been near a "large body of water"? Guilford Co. is not near the coast. I am grasping at anything and everything, right now. I would love ANY suggestions anyone on the list could give me. I am up against that proverbial wall and it won't budge an inch. Thanks for any guidance anyone can give me. Perhaps there was more than just one connected with this family? It seems more than probable that this might have been the case I looked in one of my Descendant Reports and I found the name Ezekiel about 16 times! Also, most, if not all, of my data points to the usage of FIELDS not FIELD, so do you think we are still talking about the same family? >Do you know if any of these connect with the Fields of Guilford Co., NC >and Grayson Co., Va.? I don't know...if you give me your specific names, I will check what I have for them. I took a quick look at my tree and I have Susannah Emory born in Martinsville, Henry County, VA, but mostly everyone else was born in Cherokee Nation East in TN; or Benton County, Arkansas...however, that doesn't mean that there was no one born in NC or VA. Like I said, specific names would be helpful for me to look up. I will keep looking. Thank you for posting your research. I save all FIELDS information because you never know where there might be a connection. Peace, Elaine

See Appleman's article in FCQ, vol. 49, 1975" re: Lewis Field being captured by Little Turtle "This comes from Thomas Joyes per 'The Louisville P{ost, Feb. 17, 1910'". re: G. Fields "See Tyner, pp. 165, 174-175". re: George Fields "See Tyner, pp. 7,8,12,88." re: "Richard Fields m Jennie Buffington, of the Cherokee Buffington family mentioned elswhere in this series." I did not copy the Buffington pages. There may be references there. Keep digging. I am very interested in all of this too. 3. Thank you for your reply. That is what this is all about. To begin with it was noted that there was a difference of opinion as to who Ezekiel was. I did not make a note of the publishing date, however, the author, in regard to Ed Hodges (Buffalo) being one of the current leaders, had in parenthesis (1995). I assume that this was published sometime after. Another omission - I copied the tital page but it does not have the name of the Author. Sorry. 2. Patience and all, This is very interesting, thanks for the input. Just have one probem with it. Col. John Field/Anna Field is my line. I know that "all" the sources have said that his wife Anna was the sister of George Rogers Clark. This can not be true as Ann Clark was born too late to be the mother of John Clark, son of Col. John, also in the Rev. The oldest child, Jonathan, was b. August, 1750. Ann Clark was the oldest sister of Gen. G. R. Clark. She married Owen Gwathmey. Please folks, don't flame me on this. I LOVED this story and started looking for proof that Col John Field's wife was the sister of G. R. Clark, and this is what I found instead. I am still looking for her parents. This info can be found in: "Conquest of the Country Northwest of the River Ohio 1778-1783 and Life of Gen. George Rogers Clark" by William Hayden English, published 1896. Very interesting book.
