    3. Good afternoon Glenna, Sorry that I haven't written sooner. I have been spending my spare time redoing the roof on one end of the house. I am thankful that you wrote me. A good deal of what you wrote does make sense. I see that I need to look further. I am routing this message to the good folks on the KYPike County e-mail list. Maybe someone there can prove, disprove, or expand on this. Who knows? Maybe my great grandfather Charles ?. FIELDS was an orphaned Cherokee Indian boy. Thank you again, FRED L. 3. Hughie: If your person were born 3-14-1849, I would suggest going to the 1850 census for AL and look at all the FIELDS, look at the children until you find him as a child; depending upon when the census was done in AL in 1850 your person would be around 15-18 months of age. The census would give you the names of the parents and siblings. If you know the county in which he was born, just begin with that county. If you do not know the county, you will have to look at all FIELDS in AL. Of course, if your family were on the move in 1850, this might not work; however, I have found many of my people doing this. Good luck. > Would appreciate information on the parents and siblings of LAFAYETTE > FIELDS dob Mar 14 l849 AL > dod Dec 19 1927 FL All help appreciated!!!!! > HLG

    3. Fred: You and I have talked about Charles and Clementine before. I have a theory to throw out. See what you think. I'm sorry this is so long but I also want to explain. Maybe someone on the list can poke holes in this or add some advice. Is it possible Rutha's maiden name was Phipps? I spent some time last night and some time this morning rechecking the marriage bonds and census info. THEORY BEHIND THIS QUESTION: Known facts from marriage bond: *THIS Charles and Clementine were married in 1885. *Charles was born 1863, Clementine was born 1869 According to the 1870 and 1880 census, there were no PHIPPS in Pike County in either census. In the 1880 census, Isaac Bartley and Rutha have a daughter Clementine (listed as Amanda) who was 10 years old. Charles is listed as a servant in the home of Alexander Johnson. In the 1870 census, Isaac and Rutha have Amanda C. listed "Feb.5/12" meaning she was actually born in 1870. I haven't yet found which FIELDS home Charles is in. In the 1860 census, Isaac and Rutha are listed with son Eli, 2, living in the home of Isaac's father. This tells me Isaac and Rutha were married in Virginia and had just moved to Pike County. I draw this conclusion from the facts a) there is NO marriage for an Isaac Bartley in Pike County, and b) there were NO Bartleys in the 1850 census. The marriage bond states her mother was from Grayson Co., VA and her father from Russell Co. VA. I had to go on the Net to search for VA census info. I couldn't find Russell Co. info, but found an index for the 1840 Grayson census. I found 1 Bartley listed on page 325. I found 7 Phipps listed, with the last Phipps household being listed on page 322. Unfortunately, this was just an index and, had it been the census, it would not have helped because family members weren't listed until the 1850 census. However, this did make me start thinking. I know my mother and my aunt gave me a lot of info from their memory. The two remembered certain people and certain events very differently. While their info did serve to guide me in the right direction, the actual info I found was, to varying degrees, quite different. Some of it was way off. Just a for instance: my aunt told me my gt gt grandfather was alive until 1902 because she remembered him being at her house when she was just a small girl. The truth actually turned out to be that my GT grandfather was alive until 1902. Is it possible the surname PHIPPS was remembered and just happen to be given to the wrong person? Did you, like me, get a lot of 'word of mouth' info from family members? A lot of answers may be found if someone can be found who has marriage bonds from around 1857 in Grayson Co. I think Isaac and Rutha were married just about that time, based on Eli being 2 in 1860, making him born in 1858. It is just an idea, but I thought, maybe, it would be another avenue for you to check. 2. Hi everyone, It seems to me that all of the Field/s on this list are from the South. Doesn't anyone have family in New York and/or Michigan? My gggrandfather, Alson FIELDS, was born in NY in 1816-1817 and moved to Heath Twp, Allegan Co., MI abt 1857-58. He married Elizabeth ?? b 1822 in England and they had 5 children in Onondaga Town, Onondaga Co., NY: Mary, George, Franklin (b 1850), Ellen, and Louisa. I am looking for Alson's parents and Elizabeth's maiden name, to start with. Could someone please tell me how to go about this? I have checked the 1870 census for Trowbridge Co, Allegan, MI and this is the last place I can find Alson, if, in fact, it is the right Alson. If so, he has another wife named Elizabeth (b 1835) and another daughter, Emma, b abt 1857-58 in NY). Please let me hear from someone on this list. I've been lurking a long time, but think it is time to jump in and ask for help. Judy Schor

    3. Dear FIELDS cousins, The parents and siblings of my William Russell FIELDS are: Crabtree FIELDS b 1777 Russell Co, VA married Malinda BELCHER. Their children w/ their birth dates: Their first five children were born in Va. They were James Cummings 1827, Jesse H. 1831, Isaac 1832, Elizabeth 1833 and Richard C. FIELDS 1835. Crabtree FIELDS and Malinda BELCHER FIELDS moved Lawerence Co. Ohio about 1836 where they bore six other children: Hannah 1837, Rachel 1839, Jeramiah 1840, William Russell 1845, Martha 1846 and Ezekiel Burdine FIELDS 1850. Crabtree FIELDS died in 1881 in Lawerence Co., Ohio. Both he and Malinda are buried in a Fields cemetery in Lawrence Co. The first daughter of Crabtree born after they moved to Lawerence County was Hannah. We think that Crabtree’s mother was Hannah Crabtree, but there are still some questions to be answered about this. Researchers have not been able to find any more information on Malinda Belcher so far. I was told they were going to get together in Russell County this past spring to search the records some more but I haven't heard any more from them. 1. [FIELDS] VA>OH>Springfield,Greene Co, Missouri
    2. Mary K Ward
    3. FOUND!-Lost family! - MIRACLES HAPPEN! Dear Fields "cousins", My husband's FIELDS descended from William "Russell" FIELDS, son of Crabtree FIELDS b 1800 Russell Co, VA & Malinda BELCHER. Crabtree's parents were Richard FIELDS b abt 1749 Augusta Co, VA and Hannah CRABTREE b abt 1760 New London, Bedford, VA. A query I sent months ago was just published in the Springfield, MO newspaper in their genealogy column written by Gloria Bogart Carter <[email protected] >. Betty Miles < [email protected]> just happened to buy "that" paper; read my query titled in bold print "Fields family may still be in Springfield" and recognized her DELAWDER surname. She immediately sent me an e-mail and snail mail copy of data that I never expected to find--which gives me "tons" of new information about our family. Much of it comes from a book titled "NEALS of Bedford County, Virginia and Family of Walter NEAL, Sr. of Lawrence and Gallia Counties, Ohio" by Chester I. Miller, 4385 Roberts Mill Road S. W., London, Ohio 43140. From that information I find that my husband's grandparents had 10 or 11 children (instead of 6) and that many of the descendants remained in the Springfield, Missouri area and may still be there! I also found his grandparents death dates; that they were buried in Carthage, Missouri and much more! The following is Mr. Miller's data "consolidated with mine. I found many inconsistencies that need to be resolved. Please write if you recognize any of the following. Thanks! Mary Kay COLE WARD <[email protected]> Richmond, VA William Russell FIELDS b 1844 Lawrence Co, OH m. 18 Apr 1866 Lawrence Co, OH Mary DELAWDER b 1846 Aid twp, Lawrence Co, OH, dau. of Godfrey DELAWDER & his 2nd wife, Elizabeth BURKE. Wm. R. and Mary D. FIELDS' children (birth order not verified) were all born in Lawrence County, Ohio except the youngest who was born after they moved to Springfield, MO: i. Isaac FIELDS b 1867 m 1. Ann HEMPHILL; 2. Nellie CLAVE ii. Cora Jane FIELDS b 1869 m Frank NEWLAND. iii. Henry FIELDS d 1921 m. ? BROTHERS. iv. Albert FIELDS died in infancy. v. Harrison FIELDS died in infancy. vi. Chester I. Miller "found another page of information..." Here is some of it: "Maggie FIELDS, oldest daughter of the above family had a daughter named Verna Ethel REESE, who in 1953 was living in Springfield, Missouri. The second daughter, Jane FIELDS and Frank NEWLAND had the following children: Sylvia, Okey, Dolly, Mary, Dorothy, Olive, William Russell and Mildred. The fourth child, Isaac FIELDS had three children: William, Etta and Nellie. The fifth child Emma FIELDS had one son by Leonard MELODY. Sixth child Elizabeth, who married Ora WARD had these: Walter, Earl, Theo, Orville, Harry, Rixse, and Nellie and these were in South Dakota. The seventh child Henry FIELDS, of Joplin, Missouri had five children: Kirk, John, Marie, Harriett and Dorothy. The ninth child John W. FIELDS, who died at Riverside, California had one son, Ralph FIELDS. Now I suppose this is the last that I have on the family of Mary DELAWDER and William R. FIELDS. by Chester I. 3. I don't know much more about James. I just know that his name was James W. Fields (I'm not sure what the W is for) And that Annabelle was his wife at one point. He and Annabelle had Guy in Terre Haute Indiana in 1882. They later moved to the communities of Armstrong and Dolliver Iowa. I have nothing futher back than James. I would estimate that that he was born around 1850's or 1860. 1. [FIELDS] FIELDS, Ebenezer (bd 1770-76) place unknown
    2. Elizabeth E. Freeman
    3. I am still searching for the exact birthdate/place and parents/siblings of 'old Ebenezer' mentioned above. First official record found of him is where he appears on the 1797 and subsequent Tax Lists in KY. Trying a different approach to finding him - I am researching the CASNER family who married into the FIELDS two or more times. Jincy/Jencie/Jane FIELDS (bd1800-04 KY/MO) married Henry/Harry/Harvey Casner (bd1802-10 Cumberland Co., KY) - I have quite a bit of information on her descendents. Nancy Jane Casner (bd1-25-1839)(daughter of Jincy) married on 7-23-1854 Linn Co., OR to Harvey Fields (grandson of old Ebenezer) - I have quite a bit of information on their descendents. A Nancy Fields married Riley Casner (son of Jincy) probably in OR; she died on the way to CA but had four or five children; two of the children died at the time she died of a fever. One Andrew J. Casner married Catharine/Katherine Fields in 1856 in Linn Co., OR. Don't know if either of them are related to any of the above or not. There is a Nancy Fields (age 73 in 4-1902) living in Kalama, WA who is the stepmother of the above Catharine/Katherine Fields. One A. J. Casner married Lydia T. Hamilton in 11-1858 and divorced by her on 1-25-1859. Does anyone on the list have any information on any of the above FIELDS or CASNERS? Am willing to exchange information. Am really desirous of going 'backward in time' trying to find ancestors of 'old Ebenezer Fields.
