I just received 2 military personnel records on some family members, Julius J. MILLER and Thomas M. WABOLIS. I have waited almost one year for a response so please don't give up hope. I have a question regarding Julius' form. Julius was last known to be aboard the Hellship Oryoku Maru when it was strafed by the US Navy on Dec 15, 1944 in the Philippines. As far as we knew, he was MIA. I know his name is on a wall in memorium at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Republic of the Philippines (Makati City). Now here is my question, Julius is listed as Killed in Action and not Missing in Action as we thought. Does this mean they found a body and he is officially buried there because they found a body, or does it mean that there was a mass burial for all those not found??? What is the distinction between MIA and KIA in this situation? I know it may seem obvious but clarification, especially for his living family members would be wonderful!
